Why are so many Black women experiencing hair loss—and could some of the hair practices we consider completely normal be contributing to the problem?

I explore the physical, psychological, and deeper cultural factors behind hair loss in Black women. From braids, synthetic hair and relaxers to wigs, wig glue, traction alopecia and CCCA, we look at the choices that may place stress on our hair and scalp—and why changing those choices can sometimes be harder than we think.

But this conversation goes beyond hairstyles and products.

I introduce my SMP framework—Scientific & Spiritual, Mindset & Mentality, and Physical & Practical—to explore hair loss from a more holistic perspective and ask an important question: are some of our hair choices truly personal preferences, or have we been conditioned to believe they are necessary for beauty, acceptance and opportunity?

Find out some of the major issues discussed in this video:

• How tension, weight and synthetic braiding hair may contribute to breakage and hair loss
• Why tight cornrows and extensions can put fragile edges under additional stress
• What you should know about relaxers, scalp health and CCCA
• How wigs, friction and wig adhesives may affect the hairline
• Why repeated hair practices can contribute to traction alopecia
• The difference between temporary and permanent hair loss
• Why mindset and subconscious conditioning can influence our hair choices
• How reducing inflammation, supporting scalp health and improving circulation may support recovery
• Why patience and consistency matter when trying to regrow damaged hair
• How to begin making hair choices from a place of knowledge rather than fear or conditioning
