The one player's cue action that has changed so much over the years is Jimmy White's and the one that still confounds everyone to this day is Alex Higgins'.
Alex didn't have a cue action, he became the cue, he could have took someone's eye out with his follow through.
The player with the sweetest action I've seen was Bill Werbenuik. He just so effortless and relaxed, probably because he was 12 pints deep.

Shaun, you should be knighted for your contribution to Snooker. What an absolute legend! Sharing your knowledge of the game with us viewers when you really don’t need to is admirable. I applaud you and can’t thank you enough. Big respect and best wishes for your continued success

Thanks for the tips Shaun!
I grew up with a small, old and slow table, with a good eye and a straight cue technique, the rest Higgensesque, still it held me in reasonably good stead for casual play, which is all I did.
Then stopped in my early 20’s playing casually at all. Until at 30 my uncle got a 3/4 size table, and boy we had some times on that table, him and I. He was in his 70’s yet his knowledge of the game which he played daily as a young tradesman, which still held him in good stead, frequent 20-30 breaks, occasional 50-60, not bad for an old bugger, albeit on a smaller table, and against me, who was still relying on my eye, as my good ol’ Uncle Dave, bless his soul, was too competitive to even teach me a single thing😂😂
One time I left in a huff and a puff as he cheated, and he thought/pretended I cheated, and he virtually kicked me out😂😂 He wasn’t like that as a bloke in general at all,  yet snooker made him into a madman.
And I think a few people on here can understand that point! It can send the best of us mad, and some may say snooker players, especially pros are mad to begin with to take it on as a profession.
He dies a decade ago now, RIP, and the last few years I’ve been getting back into it, a trip to Chiang Mai Thailand turned me back onto the sport, 5 minute walk in any direction and you’ll find a snooker hall, it’s fantastic!
So at 45 I’m finally having regular practice and finally honing a dependable technique for once.
And boy it’s harder at this age, yet just as doable as any age, it just takes a little more time to change our still neuroplastic brain.

At times ‘tis as Frustrating as can be.
As with having a good eye it was always see ball, pot ball. Now there’s a ten point checklist one has to practice to make practice permanent.

I’m getting there and practicing at least twice a week for a few hours has shown marked improvements.
This vid in particular helped refine my technique and settle the Higgensesque style to be Meta-Murphy-sised!
Thanks mate, from down under, say hi to Neil for me.

7:10 no way, you have one of the aesthetically pleasing cue actions, it screams confidence.

This has been the most relatable video I've seen on your channel Shaun, cheers.  I have always had huge success with zero feathers!  Get down in what I think is the correct position, then just fractionally move left or right to get the perfect angle, immediately pull back and hit the ball.  I've been told by two experienced coaches to ALWAYS have feathers, and it has done nothing but make me inconsistent, to the point where I stopped playing as I felt I was getting worse, so just couldn't be arsed.

Thanks for the sanity check that it might be a good idea early on in your game.  It gives me confidence to stick with this way of playing now 👍

That golden nugget about drawing the cue tip back as slowly as humanly possible has make a big difference to my rhythm and timing.
It also gives extra time on the delivery to send it where you intend with more authority.
🔥

"Peter Ebdon used to do 15" 😂😂😂

Top drawer Shaun. I've changed my cue action to fewer feathers, slow pull back, slowly accelerated delivery. In otherwords reducing any jerkiness at the start of the delivery. I also only focus on striking that spot on the object ball that I'm aiming for. I'll only look at the cue ball briefly at the start of the feathers. Soon becomes habit enough that you don't think about it, as all that thinking can put you off!

dear Shaun, it's a great pleasure to hear and understand your insights and explanations as you are one of the greates cue artist in many respects .. very interesting to hear you talk about the aesthetical aspects as well .. I've heard (and assimilated to my game) the "slow down your backswing" advice many times, and obviously your pointing out confirms that this is a very helpful advice .. it reminds me of archery. Your habit to start the backswing while getting down makes you such a dynamic player who is so pleasing to watch! Thank you so much for sharing your approach!

Shaun is by a country mile the best snooker teacher on YouTube. Another quality video

Brilliant episode ... makes me wish I had these 30 years ago when I was a complete snooker hack.

Thank you so much for sharing these tips with us Shaun. Your advice on slowing down the last backswing really helped me out. Made my first 50 break today.

Absolutely hung on your every word. Your expertise is unquestionable, but your presentation is equally as good.
