Can you really start a profitable poultry farm with just 5 chickens?
In this video, I visit Muhammad, a young poultry farmer in Bombo, Uganda, who started his journey with just five mature indigenous chickens — four hens and one rooster. What started as a small experiment has grown into a flock of more than 100 birds, with ambitions of eventually reaching 1,000 chickens.
What makes Muhammad's story particularly interesting is that he is raising pure indigenous/local chickens, rather than improved local breeds. His experience shows how someone with limited capital can gradually build a poultry business by starting small, learning from the birds, hatching chicks, and reinvesting into the farm.
