Helped a broken down truckie on the Canarvon Hwy earlier this year because we had Starlink. Bonus for internet when no coverage, but very worth it for any time you really need to contact someone.

UHFs I think if you’re towing a van is essential and definitely not a waste of money. If you’re not full time travelling a hand held is fine, but travelling on roads with trucks/road trains you definitely need to be able to communicate with others on the road.

My number 1 mod is an Anderson anti-sway weight distribution Hitch. Uses chains to distribute not solid bar and cylindrical brake for sway control so no issues reversing and damaging chassis or speed humps etc. After towing without one and then with one on same car and van, the first thing I look at when buying a van is will the Anderson fit on, if not move the jockey wheel or get a diff van. It's that good! Even with electronic stability control, this levels and stabilisers the car constantly, not just when trouble arrives. Fuel went from consistent 16 to 14.4 lper 100 on Prado.

A kettle on a wood fire & Vittoria instant coffee does me.
For me a coffee machine is a waste of space.

Love the stone stomper. Cheap protection.

Tyres load and speed index is a really interesting one. I actually had some high cost Mickey Thompson Baha Boss AT tyres, which I had to ditch when we got our lovells GVM/GCM kit for our 2022 LandCruiser 300, as they were not speed rated sufficiently. Load was fine. We had them for 30,000kms and were fine with our camper trailer, but when we did the suspension upgrade, they weren't enough, so we had to swap them before we have the lovells kit installed to be fully compliant. Even well known, reputable and higher cost tyres did not cut the mustard some times. We expected in 2022 the tyres would be fine once GVM kits started to come out on the market, but speed rating was not something I had expected was going to be an issue

Great info team , thanks , we have a Isuzu MUX and done the GVM upgrade, spent 7 months touring up the top end, cape York etc and will do similar next year, the snorkels are also excellent to reduce dust intake on gravel, we also upgraded our air box and filter, keep up the good work

Just a quick comment on Stone Stompers. I'm a big fan, even when doing short on-bitumen trips. A few years back I went through some road works, bitumen road, ofcourse going pretty slow as work was in progress. Heard a great bang, assumed a rock had bounced off car or van. Later when stopped for a break I discovered what happend; a rock was on the roof of the van, it had hit and slightly dented a gas bottle and then continued onto the roof. I still have the rock, weighed over 4kg. Never been anywhere since without the SS.

Hi Guys, a good down-to-earth theme, so many travellers suffer from "the must have stuff" syndrome, ya know 79 series with all the gear at $200k not including a Van, where in reality as you correctly point out many don't really need with maybe a little adjustment in attitude. In my youth I watched the Leyland Bros. and Alby Mangels on tv, and what did they have? Sure there are more and better products in today's era, but I raised my kids on selecting "what you need vs what you want" and that works while keeping some coin in your own pocket. Reality is the "compensating population" will have a kitted out 79 series ... to go shopping in lol.

Don't use fusion suction on internal ply walls.

Wrecks the wall

I was so hesitant to fork out for tie gear stuff, but after pulling the trigger and my first trip away using it made it so worth it. It's just great quality, very easy to use, it really has the premium feel. So now every trip I buy some additional pegs or a few extra guys or springs until I have all that I need.

Not one Youtuber talks about entertainment when camping, Like what games do you play with the kids and most importantly what do adults do for fun(out of the bedroom of course). We bought some bowling pins and ball from cheap shop, keeps us entertained after a few bevies. Would love to here what you guys do and what your followers do. On that note well done guys keep it up.

how about a list of off road places suitable for hybrid caravans. I can find off roading camping just for 4WD's and caravan which seems mostly easy roads. I want a specifically off road hybrid caravan and 4WD capable trip that isn't too extreme but a little more adventurous than a standard caravan trip.
