I have a 1500 mile 2022 KLR 650 Adventure ABS. My mods, T- Rex crash bars, big top box and break away mirrors from Amazon, 75 liter soft bags from WalMart, head light grill, aggressive lowered foot pegs and brake, center stand, wider foot pad on the jiffy, lowered dog links and a KLR S seat. New tires to mount. She's tall and heavy and LOVE IT! I'm also 5-7 / 160lbs. "I don't like small cars or big wimmen, but I always find myself in them"- Bob Ritchie
I too changed my oil at 6 miles with the thermo bob and doohickey , then again at 30-50ish and again around 100 then again at 185ish then again 290 miles , rotella 15w40 t4 every time π
The oil at 6 and 30-50ish was glittery and I wasn't leaving that crap in there π
I have 2 klr's . I liked the first so much I bought a second one so I would never be without one . Your oil selection and your break in are exactly the same as I have done on all my bikes . Conventional diesel engine oils still have what non roller type cams need .
Like you, as soon as I sat on my gen 3 KLR, I knew it was right- the ergos are great. You can ride all day on it and not be fatigued. Sure it's a bit of an antique and heavy but it is very capable. The range and reliability are excellent. You can take a lot of gear for moto camping without it affecting the handling too much. I've done 25k km and a lot of that remote- it gives you confidence.
The mods I've done are pretty basic: SW Motec pegs, bash plate and crash bars; bark busters and double take mirrors.
I love my KLR 2022 Adv and I think you chose well. I have looked at some of the latest Adv bike and they are nice but they are all a bit same same where the KLR is the KLR is unique and there is a reason why so many people like them. I sorry to hear you having issues with your Versys as this is also a bike I like to have with the KLR as a more road touring. I hope you get it sorted.
I would say "Greetings from the rest home" but I'm either not smart enough to retire, or too smart to turn down a good deal. Anyway, a 2024 abs Adventure (trim level) came into my bay (Dealership) for an estimate as it was stolen, laid down, and then recovered. 2006 original miles with a (for me as a tech) price of $3500. The right saddle bag and left mirror are trashed, but I'm 66 yrs old and have been a Certified tech since 1991 so I'll let you know how I like it after the title transfer in three days. Oh, I'm 5'10, 193, broken my neck twice, can't open my right hand nor close my Left hand (fully in either) and I'm deaf on my right side - but I do "come from a long line of crazy" so I'll test the fit and report back. Good video man.
Im going to get next. The t7 or the 450 you mentioned. Klr is a dammed good bike. Its not the fastest. But its just as good as the more expensive ones. Just doesn't have the power and speed you want to do sometimes. Just to gey the blood flowing faster. Lol But it will take you all the places. A $30.000 bike would. And you might have more fun. Not thinking i don't want to scath it. I got mine to do 2 up riding. And if i had a more powerful bike. I would've dropped it with the wife on it. On some of the stuff we been on. Just don't get the kendra k270. This tires ar death traps with weight. No stability at all. Hit a bump in the road. And it starts feeling like the back tire went flat. Not a good feeling at 70mph.
Nice bike I've been looking at this and the IBEX 450. Dont like that mfg didn't fix the dohicky issue. Never heard of oil change at 7 miles. I did o.c. on my T120 at 800 miles and fixing to do again at 4000 miles.
I would think that your Versys problem would be a simple fix? Those are great bikes. I'm on my 3rd one now. Had a '08 then a '13 and now an '18. I haven't had a single problem out of any of them so shouldn't be a big deal on yours? I know how you feel when it comes to taking something to the dealership. I've been thinking about adding a KLR to the stable but just haven't been able to talk myself in to it yet. I also have a KLX300 and a KLX300R so I need another bike like I need a hole in the head. π
