I took a gamble on an abandoned Porsche Boxster S 3.2 manual that hasn’t moved in over a year.
Bought cheaply on eBay with an MOT failure, flat battery and unknown faults, this Porsche 986 could either be an incredible bargain or a total disaster.

In this video I collect the car, inspect the damage and find out exactly what happens when you buy a neglected Porsche that’s been left outside for over a year.
Did I make a massive mistake buying this cheap Porsche Boxster S?

The red S badge is making my "OEM or nothing" meter go into the red zone.

Make sure you check all the drains are clear of blockages. There are 6 or 8 of them. The interior can flood and destroy the very expensive to repair/replace electronics on the floor under the seat.

As already mentioned, roof drains front and rear are a must. Jet washer will damage the roof material if you get too close, which you did! Good luck.

Nice find at a reasonable price, look forward to more content on it.

Mate you should have cleaned out the drain holes in the front bulkhead when you had the battery out

I would check the roof drains before washing it, as those leaves can block the drains and flood the ecu beneath the passenger seat.

Lovely, think you got a bargain there lads, the word for all the gunky funky leaves and dead organic material around the wells is "Detritus", i'm not clever or nuffink but the word was given to me by Mr Tasty Classics, (great channel), and it extended my 150 word vocabulary by 1, great to see you back. 👍

That was a nice Christmas surprise-welcome back. Your video content has been missed. Hopefully the weather conditions are kind to you and enable you to produce more content on a more regular basis. Much prefer the OEM look on the head and tail lights. We do love a fried egg😊😊

Love this - started watching you with the Johnny Smith ZR-1 ‘vette - wasn’t even in to American sports cars but you got me… I wasn’t much into the idea of a Porsche as such either but then realised what amazing value these old Boxsters are! I bought a base 986 Boxster for much the same money -in August - have spent as much again but loving it! Really interested to see what you make of this car.

I’m currently trying to find a solid project 986, so this’ll be interesting.

Hi Llew, Happy Christmas buddy. Hope to see you in 2026 👍

What a do with my 987 over the winter is pop the bonnet and put a cloth under the latch so you don’t have the hassle of sticking a charger to the connectors

In the immortal words of Mr. Regular, “I’ve blackened out my headlights so they work less”. The originals are absolutely the way!

Happy New Year Lew and Chris!

Definitely PPF the headlights after pulling off the black tint film. It’s likely the protective coating on the headlights has been compromised. Meguire’s actually makes a clear spray meant for headlights.

You got a great deal on the car!

Check the drain holes; major concern on Boxster parked outside.
