In war, a ruler must exude power and poise. Costume designer Caroline McCall gives Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen) a tour of the wardrobe department, sharing the intentionality behind the outfit's imagery and functionality. Though her gender is often used to paint her as weak, when Queen Rhaenyra puts on her dragon riding armor, there is no doubt she can rule with strength and ferocity, as any king might. Costume cutter Joshua Baine convinces Emma to try a little sewing and senior costume prop maker Henry Christopher shows them how to stamp a leather belt.
