Welcome American-Irish politician and author Katherine Zappone to the show. After moving to Ireland, Katherine served as Minister for Children and Youth Affairs and founded the community education organization An Cosán. An acclaimed author of three books, she remains a powerhouse for social change and civic justice. Yet this hardly captures her dedication to social change and advocacy for bettering the lives of Irish citizens.

Katherine Zappone was the first recognized lesbian married woman elected to the Oireachtas (equivalent to the USA House of Reps) marking decades of impactful service in Irish politics. A tireless advocate, she famously proposed to her late wife live on TV following the Marriage Equality referendum. Despite her unsuccessful fight for the legal recognition of her Canadian marriage in Ireland, she pushed a productive conversation for gay rights in Ireland.

She has a great sense of humor, an even better laugh and an incredibly refreshing view of politics, grief, marriage and love. We have included all links to follow her work, social media and publications below. Check out all her books: Love in a Time of Politics: A Memoir of Facing Loss and Finding Hope, Our Lives Out Loud: In Pursuit of Justice and Equality,  The Hope for Wholeness: A Spirituality for Feminists, Reclaiming the Secret of Love.
