My home waters are the Little Red and I dearly love that river. I usually start up at the dam and then work my way down to Winkley Shoals. Was just there a little more than a week ago and I cannot wait to get back.
I know guides can put you on fish but I always felt like that was like going to a pay catfish lake. Throw some dry dog food in the water and catch catfish on your cane pole. People are lazy. They want someone to make it easy. Learn how to fish for trout yourself! Study about it. Learn it. Try what you learned. If you come up short then try again. Keep at it. The best fish you can catch are the ones that you found, the fish that were where you thought they would be and you found them because you learned how to find them. Guides are very helpful and teach us a lot on just one trip. But guides are for the lazy every now and then trout fisherman that hopes his money will produce a successful trip. That’s fine but that is not the way I want to trout fish. I want to learn by research and trial and error. I will study, learn from videos, apply what I learn and see how it comes out. I would rather fish on my own and catch nothing, fall on the river, and then find out I’m in a dry county than have someone else do the work that I brag about.
