César Vidal, a scholar of Protestantism and a defender of liberty, presents the history of the Reformation movement initiated by Friar Martin Luther, who disagreed with the Catholic Church due to the loss of values and the abandonment of the ancient structures upon which it had been founded.

The Protestant Reformation movement brought with it freedoms denied by Catholicism, which continued to impose medieval traditions as a means of attaining salvation.

"The Protestant Reformation had a spirit of freedom from the beginning, both in its theological formulations and in the impact it would have on society."

The triumph of Protestantism, César Vidal comments, arose with the recognition of the right to religious freedom, which began with the Peace of Augsburg and later with the Peace of Westphalia.

Another important contribution of the Reformation, as César Vidal mentions, was its fight against ignorance, establishing schools and founding universities that opened their doors to all talented individuals, regardless of social class.

But the Reformation also gave rise to the Scientific Revolution, according to Dr. Vidal, which brought forth great figures of Protestantism such as Francis Bacon, Hans Lippershey, Zacharias Janssen, Johannes Kepler, Robert Boyle, Isaac Barrow, Isaac Newton, Carl Linnaeus, and others.

Another concept recovered by the Reformation, César Vidal affirms, was freedom from poverty, with a very different view of work, which had previously been conceived as a punishment from God. It also challenged the Catholic Church's negative view of financial culture and freedom from despotism through the establishment of the rule of law and the separation of powers.

"...Because if someone concentrates the three powers—legislative, executive, and judicial—in a single person, what we end up with is tyranny."
