How much money do you really need to live the life you want?
For years, we thought about retirement in terms of a number - how much we needed saved, how much we needed to earn each year, and whether we could afford to stop working.
But eventually, we started asking a different question: What if having more money isn't the same as having more life?
After selling our home, getting rid of most of what we owned, and becoming full-time travelers, we've completely changed the way we think about money, possessions, time, and what we actually need.
In this video, we talk about the things we don't spend money on anymore, how travel has changed what we think we need, why we stopped waiting for "someday," and what we've learned about trading some traditional measures of financial success for something we can't save for later: time.
We also take a look at the cost of the average two-person household in the U.S., using BLS data, and compare it with our roughly $4,000-a-month full-time travel lifestyle. The numbers help complete the story.
We're not trying to convince anyone to quit, sell everything and travel. We're sharing what we've learned from making a very different choice - and asking whether the goal is simply to have more money, or to use the money we have to create more of the life we want.
Because having money is great, but it’s not worth much if you don’t have time.
