On this episode, my dad and I are in beautiful Haida Gwaii in northern British Columbia at Queen Charlotte Lodge. It's a yearly tradition we started doing the summer I graduated university, and since then it's become one of my favourite weeks of the year. This world class lodge is situated on the northern shore of Graham Island in the Queen Charlotte Island group and is only accessible by boat or helicopter. The land is indigenous territory so rules and regulations on fish size and limits are strict and heavily enforced. But the fishery here is so incredible most guests end up with their limit each trip. The lodge has a fish processing facility where they clean and vacuum pack your fish before freezing it and sending it home with you (or ship it if you don't want to travel with boxes of frozen fish). My dad and I actually limited out on every single fish possible, including rockfish. We landed 434 pounds of salmon, lingcod, halibut, and rockfish in 4 days. Day 1 we focused heavy on bottom fish and we were able to bring up some big ling from the deep. I love this part of the world. No cell service, no cities, no noise, no garbage. Just nature that has remained untouched for millions of years. And I'm grateful I get to do this with my dad who also loves the outdoors. If you're looking for an escape from reality for a few days and want to come home with some of the best fish on the planet, book a trip with Queen Charlotte Lodge next summer!
