Suzanne Farrington: The Daughter Who Lost Everything to Vivien Leigh’s Madness

When Vivien Leigh was laid to rest in 1967, the cameras followed Scarlett O’Hara’s coffin, not the quiet young woman standing in the shadows. This video tells the untold story of Suzanne Farrington, Vivien Leigh’s only child: the daughter raised by nannies and convents while her mother chased immortality, the girl who grew up as a footnote to a legend, and the woman who chose calm, anonymous happiness over the chaos of fame. From London nurseries to wartime exile, from the emotional storm of Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh’s world to a quiet life in the English countryside, this is the story of the “forgotten daughter” who broke the cycle and became the one person in this tragedy who truly survived

I don’t understand why you keep saying she began to look so much like her mother, she never ever looked anything like her mother for her entire life!!

Thankfully, she had that balance bc her dad's love & affection kept her sane.

Suzanne and her father have my deepest respect.

It sounds like she inherited her father's temperament, rather than her mother's.

She looked like her father, not like her mother at all.

Such an incredible daughter, I'm so glad she found happiness and contentment ❤

I don't know how accurate this is.

What's interesting is that decades after Miss Leigh's death , Mrs. Farrington would get together with her onetime stepbrother Tarquin Olivier for a joint interview yet despite the resulting upheavals the atomic torrid affair of Miss Leigh and Sir Lawrence Olivier, neither of them expressed anything other than a strong love and admiration for Miss Leigh. Yes, it appears that each of them made their peace with what had happened during their childhood and became friends with each other as adults.

Suzanne seems like a strong, wonderful woman.

Pregnant at 18, childbirth at 19 — teenage Vivien lacked the emotional maturity for shouldering the responsibility of parenthood. Vivien, herself, suffered years of her parents’ neglect after entering boarding school at age 8. Boarding school was a tradition among the upper class.

Personally, I don't think she looked anything like her mother.

VIVIEN WAS RAISED THIS WAY . PEOPLE OF HER CLASS RAISED CHILDREN THIS WAY. ITS ALL VIVIEN KNEW

This is AI. Much of it is inaccurate. Many photos do not match the narration. Leigh Holman was a loving father. Also, Vivien's mother, Gertrude Hartley, played an active role in Suzanne's life.

I do hate to say this, but for about 85% of this world love is conditional. Truly said to say.

I don’t understand the relevance of some of the photos. They do not seem to be connected to either Vivien or Suzanne.

Considering Suzanne’s lifelong resistance to interviews, sharing of correspondence and general protection of her privacy, these descriptions of her childhood are mere speculation

Suzanne’s childhood was not a disaster. She had a family that loved her. Her life was not a disaster. It was not unusual for upper class women to be sent away during the war or going away for school. From all accounts Suzanne barely spent any time with Vivian as a child or even as a young woman. As an adult, Suzanne made a choice to take care of Vivian during her mental illness. She did not have to. Suzanne did not lose anything. She was not unstable. She was healthy. She was strong. I don’t get why you think she lost anything to Vivian’s madness.
