that’s why i love how tinashe is questioning that stigma with popstar because music is universal. it’s energy, it’s spiritual and it shouldn’t be confined by race or genre. tinashe has never tried to fit into society’s expectations of what a black female artist should sound or look like. she has always been different, experimental and so far ahead of her time that you can hear and see her influence in her peers, even when they refuse to acknowledge it.
i also love her questioning what it actually means to be a popstar because pop has become such an exclusive space. it’s 2026 and we still rarely see black women receiving the same label support, promotion or opportunities to perform on major stages like the grammys and vmas. tinashe has survived an industry that tried to limit her, became independent and continued creating on her own terms. her artistry, courage and perseverance are exactly why she is ICONIC!
