Came for the Octobass, stayed for the rest of the fantastic sounding orchestra and choir.

I was sure I wasn't the only one who clicked for the octabass in the thumbnail, and I was right 😂 gorgeous mass, gave me all the chills. That bass made my liver vibrate.

I played this piece at uni. I had the pleasure of playing the octobass on my bass. In the Benedictus, it calls for a bottom b flat that I played by tuning my C1 extension down to Bb0. It was a pleasure and highlight of my playing career. Octobass and heavenly brown-notes aside, my favourite movement of the mass is the triumphant setting of the Credo. Splendid recording and one of the best interpretations of this masterpiece. St Cecilia, pray for us musicians!

IMO there is no recorded version as fine as what the sound engineers have mastered in this performance.

What a wonderful thing to hear these people all at the top of their profession, coming together to sing and play such beautiful music. It boggles the mind to think about the hundreds of thousands of hours of practice that culminated in this spellbinding performance.

Phantastische Musik, phantastische Interpreten. Chapeau

I’ve loved this work for years. What a thrill to see and hear it performed with the octobass even though my old ears can’t possibly hear the low notes around 20-25 Hz! Wonderful chorus and orchestra and soloists throughout.
