THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! It's hard out there for us Carrie defenders. People treat her like she personally destroyed their homes or smth instead of the riveting, fully-rounded character that she is. You don't see anyone online act this way abt any of the prestige drama male protags like they do with Carrie. Def some internalized misogyny at play.

Yessssss, the original documentary format was so fun and a lot more engaging to me, I was so sad when they changed it

S1 was very intelligent where they talked about women issues in post feminist 90s era & Carrie broke the fourth wall pretty often.

It's about class. In the late 90s/early 2000s "rags to riches" narratives were very popular and we enjoyed watching a flawed and messy character pursue and achive their dreams. Now with all the old money vs new money aesthetics, divine femininity, being demure, clean girl aesthetic and the rise in repackaged conservatism the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction. Now Carrie's effort to climb the social ladder is seen as cringe and desperate, and Charlottes attitude is percibed as effortles and classy. And its like yeah, she' effortless because she's literaly not making any effort. She was born into wealth and status.

ironic bc charlotte was written to discuss the pitfalls of the tradwife lifegoals and aesthetic. she has a lot more depth as a character. as soon as she is less superficial and obsessed with "aesthetics" and to be perfect on the outside, she actually finds true love and is satisfied in her relationship. i still think borrowing money from your friends is an icky and very personal topic. but these days ppl take fictional characters and project their political agendas onto them as if they never saw the actual show.

Charlotte got the ring, the apartment, AND the divorce lawyer 😂❤

I think that her outburst starting with “Why didn’t you offer me the money?” Instead of addressing Charlotte straight up ignoring her, made a lot of people reject the whole argument from the start

HARD agree on carrie being the first if not one of the first female antiheroes. as i get older, i've come to appreciate that she sort of made it "ok" for a female lead character to be unlikeable at times. also, loved the video!!! your editing is fantastic. :)

I always disliked how people characterize Carrie as a bad friend. There are so many great moments throughout the series where Carrie is there for her friends and they're all there for each other. I had a friend who I saw as a Carrie, she was messy sometimes in her personal life and with men, but she had this charisma about her that just made her really easy to get along with because she was genuinely a good friend. You just had to be there for her when she made mistakes because you KNEW she'd be there when you messed up. Carrie type girls are true besties!!

Came for the content, stayed for the LOOKS. Soooo extremely well done, all around. I loved this and y'all!

Carrie should have taken the money from Big.  Actually she should have asked him for the total amount so she wouldn’t have to pay interest because HE f***ing owes her.

What’s weird is that the show often plays out where you can understand both sides of the arguments Carrie gets into, like yes charlotte isn’t responsible for carries financial troubles, but the frustration of having both of her other friends offer to help and not your most wealthy friend is REAL and you can see her side, idk why the women who criticize her character now can’t see that

I was watching this the whole time, and when I was finished I noticed that this level of production deserves much more attention!!!!!!!!! Such a good essay!

Fast forwarding to the first SATC movie. The girls are all there for Carrie pre and post jilted at the wedding to big. Yet, as they all face high levels of uncertainty and change we see the following. A pregnant Charlotte runs alone (wasn’t Miranda a runner too?), none of them visit Samantha in Hollywood, and after Steve cheating on Miranda it is Magda who goes with her to source a new apartment. Yet in Mexico during the ‘honeymoon’ all the girls rally around Carrie to support the devastation and heartbreak 💔 she is clearly experiencing. And sacrificing their own responsibilities to do this.

Why are people acting like being financially irresponsible means you deserve to homeless? 😭

I am a bit of a Samantha with money. I don't keep tally on who owes who especially when I am comfortable. The thing is Carrie's situation is on her. It's not due to a cruel life roulette such as an illness or being laid off. She is a 30 something woman buying frivolous things she can't afford. I'm not enabling poor behavior. Though if I saw Carrie trying to take care of the situation by selling her expensive things or getting another job, yeah I'd probably give her the money.

I have been in a situation many years ago where I had nowhere to live. At the time I went into a women's hostel while I pulled the things back together and didn't ask my friends for help but was quietly hurt that only one offered me somewhere to stay. Hearing all these podcasters jumping on the bandwagon of critiquing Carries behaviour in this storyline is shocking particularly when the housing situation for renters has got so much worse in the intervening years

You totally changed my mind with this video

In Episode 16, Carrie came to the realization she had spent $40,000, the equivalent of the down payment needed to buy her apartment, on shoes. When Charlotte graciously offers to give Carrie her wedding ring for the down payment, she said it will take her time to pay her back. Yeah, because two episodes later, she has to buy another pair of shoes for her last date with Big before he leaves New York. What did she learn from any of this? I believe it was a clear act of karma that Miranda’s water breaking ruined those shoes.

I’ve only ever watched the Carrie diaries so you can imagine my shock just now learning about her “single mother” and “deadbeat dad” 🤣 🤡
