Whats crazy is how much this entire system costs and yet you are struggling with basic toolchanging prints

Your review is spot on!  When I bought the Prusa Mk3 I3 kit in 2018, it was a joy to assemble and a joy to print with.  So solid!  Since then I have been disappointed by the MMU2, and some teething problems on the Core One.  I recently upgraded my Core One to the Plus Gen2, and forgot that the belt tuning algorithm isn’t as solid as I recalled, and have ended up with the Speed profile no longer functions correctly.  Prusa announces a product for preorder, then six months later it starts shipping, and six months after that some of the problems are solved.  Oh, and you call Prusa support, and they want a longer video, but the site only supports 10MB uploads.  I wish they’ed get it together.  I like Bambu’s out of the box quality, but not their business practices.  I’m not sure where to go.

I had a huge printing issue with my INDX, it would power panic during printing every two or three tool changes. Turns out it was a grounding issue with my X & Y steppers, after upgrading to the new belts, and it was generating a ton of static electricity. That was a good 12 hours on chat with Prusa to figure out. Working well now, had to sand off some of the paint/coating on the frame.

My “flying poops” got a lot better with this change too.

Also, I did have good results from Protopasta.

just imagine if bambu's newest printer ONLY worked with their filament, Louis Rossman, Gamer's Nexus, 3DMusketeers, et al. would have an entire MELTDOWN

12:00 it's not just presentation, it's literally core functionality. The first layer (and initial calibration, purging, etc) is quite literally the foundation of a print. If you cannot even see it because the light is UNDER THE BUILD PLATE, the engineers have really effed it up again. Every time I start to think "oh maybe this is the year I consider a Prusa finally" they pull something like this on a USD 2000 printer. I could buy ten Bambu A1 minis for that price and have an entire print farm, or I could buy one machine that, much like an Ender 3 of two decades ago, can be made tolerable with a lot of tinkering and modifications, but when something is this level of hyper-engineered and basic, essential, core functionality like "using other brands of filament" and "being able to see the build plate" are effed, one can only wonder what other under-the-hood problems it will have after a few hours, a few days, a few months....

I used to tell people Prusa when they asked me what kind of printer to get. Use their printer, software, and filament and you'd have the least amount of problems, while the creality would just become a paper weight. But despite being one of the biggest printer manufacturers in the world, it seems like they had no idea a company like BambuLabs was coming. Creality was quick to deliver something competitive, with all their expected creality quirks, But Prusa just doesnt seem to be getting the message. People want a tool, not a new project. They don't want to spend thousands of dollars just to have to figure out the things the manufacturer should have. The CAMERA isnt even a standard option, it's a $30 upcharge. And even then it's just a view on your phone, no Ai print monitoring. Honestly i would love and hate a current tour of their factory, but I doubt they're doing that anymore. Can't have people seeing how badly they're doing compared to before. I have a feeling they're not going to make it to the end of 2027.

Prusa we love you, but this after such a long time in R&D this is just a complete disaster.

I'm sad to see what Prusa has become. I owned, and loved, an Mk3 and Mk4 - but when I upgraded to a Core One, it was nothing but headaches. I got an H2D at the same time and it was miles ahead. Prusa earned my trust but it has evaporated over the past few years. Unless something changes, I dont see myself ever buying another Prusa. Hopefully I'm wrong, I am genuinely rooting for them.

Isn't this the standard Prusa playbook though? Announce that a new tech is ready to ship, spend another 1-2 years working on it without shipping it, ship a first wave that's a half-baked early beta but tell customers that it's production, then spend the next 2-3 years trying to make that tech actually work. Don't worry, fam! The printer you bought in 2026 is going to have basic functionality ready by Q1 2028, maybe even sooner!

Prusa announced tool changing on the XL in 2021 - 6 full months before Bambu even began their kickstarter. That XL tool changer didn't ship for 2 years, and then it was another 2 full years before it actually worked (but still only about 70% of the time, it seems). Meanwhile, a full year before customer-owned XLs worked, Prusa had already announced that they were moving on to a new tech instead.

I guess the real question now is whether INDX will ever work or if Prusa will have already moved on to their next new tech to bungle before then.

People were so worried about Bambu locking out third party filaments and now Prusa did basically just that.
I'll be honest: I'm rather locked to a specific slicer than a (very expensive) brand of filament.
