The makeup misconceptions about the 80s perpetuated here are wild.

I would wear any of that stuff right now.

Gen X here .i was born in 1969 .  14 in 1985 . Maybelline Moody Mauves was the number 1 eyeshadow quad
Light pink frosty lips ,black water line eyeliner .light pink blush .feathere hair .polos for boys and girls . Jordash jeans ,sasoon jeans or guess . Lots of girl would match the color of there polos to there cotton dockers .them the nike were white with a red swoop.  That was common fasion in 1984 . I will remember it forever.

OH WOW WHAT A THROWBACK!  I was born in 1971, so I graduated elementary school in 1985 and High School in 1989. When I started wearing makeup, oh yeah blue eye shadow and eyeliner! Even though I have blue eyes, LOL! The 80s style was fun and loud - loud colors, bright colored lipsticks and plastic colorful jewelry, funky colored socks, you name it! Oh yeah I used to wear lots of leggings with big tops (including sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets) and shoulder padding was very common, and may hair was big and teased out. There were lots of things going on with clothes - splash art, animal prints, neon colors, bold geometric prints, acid washed jeans, tight skirts over leggings, leather and suede with fringes, big belts at the waist or that dropped down, multiple pairs of slouch socks, silky satin dresses with very poufy sleeves, high waisted designer jeans, ... it definitely was a fun time in fashion. I still have a pair of black velvet leggings and a black skirt from back then tucked in my drawer for memory's sake! Oh and I still have a pair of high waisted jeans in my closet that probably won't ever fit me again, but it used to back then when I was about a size 6! I really enjoyed how you did your makeup, it really took me back... :D

The eighties was the best decade of all. Matte full coverage was definitely the look. Blush went up. Blue mascara. Headband around head in middle of forehead. Short poofy skirt. Big poofy sleeves.

As a fellow millenial, I feel the same way about the 80s, yet I now realise so much of what we learnt about makeup, colours and body type in the 2000s was inspired by the 80s...! And I find myself returning to some of those make-up tips 😅 shout out to the terracotta contouring, pastel frosty and all over shimmery eyeshadow, clumpy mascara and bold eye liner! It took me 30 years to realise I should embrace warm tones 😮😅

I like that you nor only got the silhouette or colors true to the era, but dressed with 80s mindset.

I agree that mainstream fashion today often leans into male gaze or something money(power) related. I love having fun with clothes and people can diminish folks like me. Just yesterday i was called red riding hood by some naughty man i didn't even talked to

Oh gosh, you're so right about '80s fashion being more about fun than appealing to the male gaze. Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Boy George, and Leigh Bowery weren't trying to look sexy for men--they were moderately clothed and wore lots of chunky jewellery, ribbons plaited in braids, and garish makeup--but of course I am giving you the most extreme examples, ESPECIALLY Leigh Bowery (he is a complete artistic abstraction)--but the point is that even if you watered down the fashions that the biggest pop artists presented, it would still scream I'm having fun with myself more than I'm looking sexy. I love that.

In the 80es we went for very colorful makeup, wild hair and moonwashed jeans with cowboy boots. There was nothing  "soft romantic" 😂😂

We couldn’t wear jeans to work like folks do now so yes your clothing was very accurate- dresses were the norm - and the color pallets for the seasons. I was a spring. Clothing was matchy matchy whereas today mixed prints are acceptable- and big earrings were so 80s. Can’t say I miss 80s fashions.

I love this. The '80s were a burst of mainstream explosion leftover from new wave and new romantic, which was leftover from more hardcore London punk. YET, even just before punk, look at Divine in the film Female Trouble, from 1974! Divine was doing mainstream 1984 in 1974!
