That was some really good advice. I've recently started getting into LMU and I've been pretty safe so far, but it's hard to avoid contacts and actually have races. I think LMU could do a bit of a better job with the safety rating system, small contacts shouldn't punish you as hard as they currently do, especially given how common they are in the actual WEC races. On the other hand the game is too lenient on when you actually spin someone else around or push them off the track. It doesn't care about that, it only counts the contact.

And what you mentioned towards the end of the video really hit home with me: People often park their cars right after they crossed the finish line and it once seriously impacted my safety rating when I ploughed right into a parked car right after I finished the race. They should really switch off the rating system as soon as you finished the race, people do all kinds of shenanigans after the finish line and it's easy to get caught up in it.

It feels like that in order to gain SR, you have to sacrifice DR - Vice verca to gain DR, you have to sacrifice SR.

I have run iRacing for 5 years, and am now getting into LMU. Trying to improve safety rating is very similar to iRacing. I am excited to try and get out of Bronze at some point soon.

Great advice mate! Just a thing when you cross the finish line, You don't have to come to a stop to exit as you would in Quali etc. As soon as you finish hit ESC & you"re back in the lobby. This saves potential idiots from ramming you while slowing the car down which count as contact even though the race is over.. So flat out, cross the finish, then ESC. For people coming to the comments for insight, here's a new sim racer's take:
Once you learn a track, practicing being patient and consistent (when chasing) and being respectfully defensive (without blocking) during extremely tough battles with hungry adversaries throughout the race often leads them to taking risks and making critical mistakes, leading to pretty rewarding finishes. Even in bronze lobbies, the faster racers up front are generally there to have a fun clean race and show pretty great sportsmanship as the crab-bucket types at the back of the pack take themselves out pretty early

Starting from the bottom with no experience with these sorts of cars or tracks, after about 10 crashouts and 10 completed races with awful damage from being punted, i found myself with a '!' badge, so I switched it up, started racing from the rear to see how many places i could make up.
Within 5-10 more races crawling around the t1 carnage, I got the green diamond badge and a silver SR.
after some offline practice on monza and fuji (the current online bronze lobbies) good quals and podium finishes were within grasp. really, once you figure out how to get past the crab bucket at the start of the race, you can focus on competing, not just surviving. The rest is racing!

Great strategies there

Great video. I love when YouTube feeds me a new creator to hear more varied opinions. I would, however disagree that Safety rating is something you should be looking to “farm”. You should focus on being a safer driver, and your rating will follow. Starting from the pits not only robs you of the fun of race starts (imo), but it also doesn't teach you the skills necessary to survive race starts when you get to higher-level races. This would make you the liability that others will want to avoid. Drivers should start from the grid, learn to spot red flags, and develop the reflexes to avoid them. I have about 70 races logged, and I have never purposely started from the pits; I achieved a platinum SR (50 races or so) and the diamond badge. Not saying that to brag but just to say that it is possible even if this Is your first proper sim racing game like it is mine.

I did a couple of "grind" races where i started from pitlane and went very steadily around. Problem is it was quite dull! I do need to get out of bronze tho so maybe just need to dedicate a week to it... otherwise i pretty much alternate going up / down in SR

There are no benefits of a good sr . I have been from the bottom to the top and back down then up again. It's all the same. Red badge is the most fun dancing around all the trouble.

Thanks for the video. I'm currently planning to but lmu because it's on sale on steam (I will buy the full version) and race Control plus. Do you have any tips for beginners? (I'm a pretty good driver in ACC, I'm just wondering if there are any sim specific things)
