The only reason to build more advanced power gens is if you are limited by production slots.  There is no reason to put expensive power down if you have 20 unused production slots.  If you need the production slots you can start adding higher tiers to get more power out of your slots.

Great video mate! thx a ton!

Best to write notes for vids before you start recording, at least with comparative or review vids

Great video!  I really learned a lot  and look forward to similar videos in the future.

Cheers, this was useful

Interesting , Thank You

if you're a solo and you farm that spice, go with directional. if you hardly farm spice, go with omnidirectional. but if you're a big guild and are still using tier 1 generators, you need to reevaluate your priorities.

Ty sir! Just starting out on Xbox so this was an amazing help since I have perhaps 30 generators under my base and I was fixing to build the spice generator!

Thank you for helping make my decision with this comparison and breakdown. I was about 60% already sold on your outcome before seeing this and based on how I play this game my way (solo) this suited my narrative.

Thanks for confirming my own thoughts with the generators. I play with just my cousin and i so duo like you and your wife.  I had the same feelings as you towards what would serve us best.  Great breakdown man

Appreciate you taking the time to make this. I am a solo and love the Omni, spice residue is dirt cheap on the exchange so keeping it powered is not an issue. As someone else stated I didn't need them until I was hitting my production limit. Thanks again

My man

Honest answer is only using the power production to just meet your needs in that moment. If you have 3000 power needed, then make the min to meet 3000. Small teams or solo won't need huge amounts, and there are space/slots which was pointed out. If you have an Advanced Sub then you get 40 slots, you get more per stake added, with small increase per stake to claim tax. The smaller your claim size, the less slots you have and the more need you will have for greater power amounts from a smaller number of machines. 40 production slots for instance is a good number, but if you have said, 3 medium Ore refineries, Death Stills, Blood Refineries, and then your normal array of Fabricators, you will not be able to run Normal Fuel Gens to meet that need as you will run out of production slots. This isn't to say, there is a golden correct way, just that each method you'll be faced with needing to invest time to different aspects to meet production needs. Be it water, fuel/power or time to refine base components to various types of end products. Some could be met with turning off machines when not using them to save power needs and allowing less amount power gens needed. This is tedious and takes time as well.

Fact is, you still have to have just enough power to run everything including power needs for Pentashield Walls etc. The big take on power is use only the amount you need to meet your needs. If you need 3000, make enough of any mix to hit 3000 as anything over 3000 is just wasted. one thing this video doesn't say too is that the Time listed for up time of power on your Sub Fief is based on your lowest available unit needed to supply the power needs of the base. You can have for instance 10 Fuel gens running, and one Directional. The total time will be calculated for that amount of power from the lowest available machine type needed to produce it, starting with the calculation from the highest production type in use. The 1050 power being made will start its calculation with the 350 from the directional and then continue with lesser machines. SO, if your base in that use case needed 300power, you'd see it saying however much time was on the Directional only as it handles all the needs of that base. As soon as your bases power needs increased beyond the 350 of the directional it will then start calculating from the time available for the Fuel Gen. Means if you need to take a break for a while, make sure one Directional or better is in place and then turn off all other machines in your base. You just bought yourself 31 days of time. As the Power Gens will use the fuel no matter if there is a draw on it or not. So cale up Power as needed for production to just meet it. If you wanted, you could even turn off Fab Machines when not being used. Means less power needed, allowing you to have fewer Power production, but will take time to turn off and on machines to do things. So, this isn't for everyone. I normally just make power to the point all machines can be on so less hassle turning things on and off, but there is the option if needed. I have used this power off option for Death Stihls when water isn't being used to lower power needs, but that was quickly changed as it is tedious.

No huge things to use whatever power you want. It's you playing and your time. Just know Omnidirectional is the cheapest power over all item wise, and just slightly more time to make its fuel as it's already items, you'll be gathering for other things anyhow. Just don't over produce power without the need, because that is just a waste of your time. Dune needs work still but is a good game. Just go enjoy it and have fun!

Build 1 or 2 large only to power when you are doing large production to save space. If you are not using large refineries power them down.

I ended up using the omni-directionals for my base. I have the size fully upgraded and with 80 production slots I was able to get all the stuff I needed and still have a few left over so I didn't need to upgrade.

After the first time I hit production limit I decided I'd set aside some resources for the big boys. I feel like I'm always sitting on infinity spice residue but man farming slag is a pain! And of course, only ever use the basic one in PvP zones. Probably the biggest reason I don't use the turbines is because I like to hide the generators in my walls.

For the DD with the 50% build cost reduction and getting 100% back the only cost to consider is 6 days of power generation for what you have. In HB manage to run a full base in a basic sub-fief with only making an advanced fabricator when I need it and I can have my buggy, assault and scout and 300k water using the basic generators. At this point until updates I am not making a bigger base and tbh this is working well as is so I may never go back to an advance sub-fief.

So my guild is using the spice generators for the guild base and our refinery base in Hagga is going to move to that as well as we have several large ore refineries and medium chemical refineries that work each week to supply materials for the entire guild to use, especially to help with covering losses from a hard week in the DD.  So it’s economical for us to use them, but for smaller guilds and solos, yeah I can see that directional/omnidirectional ones are the better option from a cost standpoint.

We need a better way to manage placeables in bases. I have multiple bases on different servers, and friends bases that are on break, that i fuel. If you are in full production mode, sure run all your generators, but what i do when i'm not using all my big power draining machines, i turn them off. You can even reduce your fuel needs by then turning off generators.  Granted this can get confusing if you forget you turned them off. I typically turn off wind turbines if i don't need them.

I'm playing with the idea of building a couple spice generators to use up my residue, but keep them off and only use them for when i'm in full production.

They really should change the recipe for spice infused fuel cells to make 100 for the price to make it worth it. It is an expected and balanced jump from the previous tier. The cost to make the generator should be the main limiting factor, not the the upkeep
