"Never heard more crap in my life!": Haddin hits back at Atherton column | Willow Talk

Willow Talk Cricket Podcast

Former Australia wicketkeeper Brad Haddin has strongly denied that he was warned by England players about firing up Ben Stokes the allrounder’s debut in 2013 in a column by Michael Atherton.

In his column for The Times celebrating Stokes’ 100th Test match, Atherton writes Jimmy Anderson and Matt Prior told Haddin not to mess with “nutter” Stokes, which Haddin laughed off on the Willow Talk Cricket Podcast.

Never let the truth get in the way of a moral victory.

My impression of Stokes is that he is more interested in his personal image and himself rather than for his team.

Another moral victory taken out of 5-0.
They have been doing this since a long time.

Stokes is a tactical genius. No other man would have the gall to bring back bodyline cricket and lose a test match in under two days.

Series result: AUS 5: ENG: 0

Haddin is not inferring that he is a hard man or anything like it. He is just saying the story is bullshit and that Stokes was actually spitting the dummy and losing his cool because of a bit of sledging...if the umpire even commented on it, it must have been working. Haddin also goes on to give Stokes plenty of credit...try actually listening to what he saying.

Aussies must have been terrified.....then they won 5-0

Haddin arguably had one of the hardest jobs in cricket ever....and that was following Adam Gilchrist as WK for Australia. And he did a pretty good job of it. Hats off

stokes has a reputation for being intimidating because he went to court charged with assault

All this talk about stokes being a great captain has me wondering if im watching the same tv, they get to a winning position and cough it up all the time

100 tests is an amazing effort for someone with a batting average of 36.

Brad put his daughter and family before his cricketing career , as any decent father would

They need to find the footage of this stuff and play it to see how accurate it is. Ha.

Love this take from Haddin, balances a fair dosage of natural bravado and anti-English chat with some honest reflection on Stokes as a cricketer. Rivalries make sport what it is and we're losing a lot of them across different sports, so long may the Aussie vs England spirit remain.

Haddin should catch up with Atherton to tell him to write a retraction explaining what really did or didn't happen or contact The Times himself with a written response to the article, which they'd probably publish.
