At Valentino's funeral she ordered a flower arrangement spelling out "Pola" in white roses that she wanted placed on Valentino's casket. Ben Lyon, an actor and director in the 20's, had been a good friend of Valentino and organized the funeral. He told Pola in no uncertain terms that the floral arrangement would NOT be placed on the casket. He told her it was Rudy's funeral, not an opening night for her. The flowers weren't on the casket, LOL.

You bring these stars lives out in a very interesting yet respectful way, it truly was a dog-eat-dog world in old Hollywood and as a 68 year old I remember clearly reading crazy stories in the scandal and fan magazines while my mother had her hair done at the salon and being scolded for reading that "filth"!

Thank you for this. I'm an ardent classical Hollywood nerd ( I grew up in Hollywood at the wane of the studio system). I've always been curious about Negri but never could find much about her except some of the more sensational gossip. You presented her life in a well-researched, concise and thoroughly entertaining manner that really fills in a lot of missing pieces to old Hollywood history. I have been an avid fan and subscriber to your channel for a while now. Keep up the good work. ❤

My favorite thing about these bios is that they are well-researched, but not snide or sensationalist. I did not know much about Negri except her name. But, I think I know her after this. The photos are on-point, and there is no confusion like that found in many of this type of bio. Thank you.

I'd heard of Pola Negri but knew nothing about her. Thank you so much for the education! Cheers from Australia.

Interesting how she spoke about Valentino's passionate abilities as a lover. One of his friends who was staying at the house said that one night Rudy came pounding at his door claiming that while he was making love to his future wife, Natasha Rambova, she passed out cold and wouldn't move. Valentino in a state of distress begged for his friend to come help him because he claimed that he had "killed Natasha" during their intense love making. Rudy and his friend were able to revive her though, much to Rudy's relief.

That Hollywood drew people from all over the world is a powerful aspect. That a man or woman could rise from obscurity, from humble beginnings and become a star is unlike any other industry. Fame and riches, and more attention than you can handle...they turned themselves inside out for it.

"The violent events surrounding the ring over the past 100 years can hardly be dismissed as coincidence..."
Yes it can. 🤷🏻‍♂️

An amazing life. There's something special about the early Hollywood sirens. A great episode. 💋

Pola Negri was my great grandmother's cousin. She visited my grandfather's family in Baltimore and would sit with my grandfather on her lap.
My family was from Poland. But only part of the family was Polish, and were connected to minor royalty (from an era when Poland and Prussia were city states ruled by princes). The other part of the family were Romanian gypsies. Our family has traced some of the ethnic gypsies to a small border village in the Carpathian Mountains. During WWII, the members of the family in Romania and many in Poland were sent to concentration camps and their story becomes lost.

She had a very interesting life. I enjoy the voice of the narrator too.

My very favorite silent Hollywood actress. There’s so little information out there about her, so I’m thrilled to have stumbled upon this lovely documentation on the life of Pola Negri. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️

So grateful for your usual finesse presenting Pola's full and fascinating life. Garbo was an admirer of her talent and they became friends through Mauritz Stiller. Pola always struck me as having a great, rather knowing, sense of humor. Her reaction to Valentino's passing was, er, strong--but two of his fans jumped into a volcano over his loss, so... And yes--I really need to know more about that cursed ring!

Pola Negri was interesting. I watched a documentary about silent films, and it mentioned Pola's antics at Valentino's funeral irritated the public.

This was a great story. Thank you ❤❤❤❤❤

I know a lot about Pola Negri! An eccentric Polish moviemaker in Austin paid me to edit the biography on her that he released in English. She was an eccentric and dramatic old lady in San Antonio at the end of her life! And some evidence came forward that she was a spy in WWII...
