Thank you for coming back to Dimash. This is a Chinese show called The Singer - 2017 - so you'd be amazed how much his voice has matured and expanded even in range. He was 22 and is now 31. He did not speak nor understand Chinese nor English at the time and it was the first time away from his family for a length of time. This was a contest for which he was invited as the wild card contestant, the first from outside China, the youngest of all those seasoned professionals in a green room area and they also were hearing him for the first time, several of whom became friends and have performed with him. The audience consisted of the official judges and were professionals in the music industry. You notice the same people in subsequent episodes. He was the first singer on the first night and sang this SOS and amazed everyone. He was expected to only last one episode and ended up 2nd overall because the winner was expected to be Chinese. There are a number of behind the scenes videos also. The internet in China had over 600K search hits and Dimash had body guards at his hotel room the next day.

This is the performance that made him.an instant star in China in early 2017. The show is "Singer", a competition for professionals.  Dimash was a wild card, both the only non-Chinese and the youngest participant,  was unknown in China and expected to exit early. This was the 1st performance on the 1st night, and he blew everyone away and took 1st place for the night. The voters were the 500 music industry pros that comprised the audience. Those few observing from another room are Dimash's competition. They were extremely gracious and supportive of the skinny kid who spoke no Chinese and had never been away from home. ❤❤❤

Dimash will go down in history as the first of his kind, or maybe the only one of his kind. He's a trail blazer and already have many people struggling to sing like him. He will stand the test of time. People will talk about how lucky we were, to be alive during his time.  I already know it. ❤

The performance had 600 million views not 600k not 6milion but 600 million views and make him famous over the night,it was shocking for him as well

You know what's even funnier Nick. One would think Dimash is performing in his home country of China but actually his home country is Kazakhstan 😂😂😂 so him showing up to China to perform is actually his out of the country performance

I have watched this so many times, and it still gives me goose bumps! I have not seen a single video of his that doesn't inspire me or show another perspective of his vocal abilities. Just extraordinary! Thank you for a great breakdown.

Thank you Nick. Dimash's love for humanity and his Dears will endure the gravity of time.. cherish him and keep him.. for there will be no other like him in our lifetime.

Generally he uses falsetto for emotional reasons at some point but most of the time it's head voice. Men are using falsetto to reach high notes but Dimash uses head voice as a coloratura soprano. That's why he sings the Queen of the Night like it's not a big deal 😂

The people they cut to (with the better lighting) are his fellow competitors, who had never seen him before this performance, watching from backstage. The judges were the 500 audience members who voted for their favourite performances of each night. He won this night, followed by his cover of Vitas' "Opera 2" on the next episode, and Lara Fabian's "Adagio" on Episode 6. There are many performances from this competition worth checking out. Some said that the only reason he didn't win the whole thing was because he wasn't Chinese. I guess so many people thought he was robbed that the next year they invited other non Chinese performers like KZ Tandingan and Jessie J, who won. Also on Singer 2018 worth checking out is Hua Chenyu. See his "Nunchucks", which was his arrangement of a rap song.

1st song I’ve heard by DQ! I’m still Dimash-ified every time..🥰

Thank you for your reaction! If you want to be stunned again, you should watch his performance of 'Ikanaide' from the Tokyo Jazz Festival. Or Olympico, if you like to hear his operatic voice 😊

Never heard him before... 😮 Oh my gosh what a great singer! The control and the range. And the feeling! Wow 😮😮❤️

Thank you for this reaction, Dimash is the best! I wish a blessed new year to you all

He's the best in the universes!

For a great behind the scenes look at Dimash at this competition, there is a video called "Dimash Kudiabergen First Impressions - all the wonderful moments" on a fan club site. There is a longer version on Gloria Wu's site (G Wu). She has a number of performances from that competition with Eng.subs and intros with backstories to the songs. There are also interviews in China, and his attempt at acting on Chinese TV : "PhantaCity", and Chinese TV's "Screaming-Idol Hits" with Eng subs and backstage footage. He didn't meet Igor until 2018, and "S.O.S...." was a song he used in competitions to demonstrate his range. Gloria Wu has a version of this song with its background in her intro.

Dazzling Dimash is So Dazzling

What you mentioned about goose bumps is so true! I’ve heard SOS hundreds of times by now and I always get goosebumps at certain parts. Even if I consciously try not to! 😅

4:40 those are other competitors. audience was the judges. all music related professionals

Few weeks ago Dimash finally released official version of his most rocky-metal song "Fire" where you can see his passion to this type of music.
This song is uploaded on Recording academy Grammy's channel, so may be Dimash will try to compete for Grammy awards in near future:

This is magnificent rocky song! Dimash was like a rockstar, dressed in amazing flaming suit.
It was filmed on his concerts in Kazakhstan 13.09.2024 (premiere of song Fire) and 14.09.2024.
I would like to see your reaction to this performance ;)
