In early 1945, the Nazis finally decided to do something they had been avoiding for almost three years: they sent a full-fledged Vlasov Division to the Eastern Front against the Red Army. About 18,000 men, German weapons, artillery, armored vehicles, and their own command. It seemed like this propaganda project would prove that they were truly capable of fighting.
But the division's first full-fledged battle near Berlin ended quite differently than the German command had hoped.
