And then there are times when you'd rather not meet up with the wildlife. I was stationed at Ft. Greely just south of Delta Junction as a meteorological observer. My job was to go out to the various weather sites and change charts on the equipment. One morning I was out on the Tanana River plain changing the chart on a rain gauge. I had to squat to get to the access door since the gauge was only 4 feet high. Because of this I was looking down and was rather oblivious to anything around me. Then I heard the sound of stomping feet and stood up to see a herd of buffalo starting to walk around me. They were HUGE, over 6 feet tall at the shoulder!!! I was grabbing the rain gauge for dear life, hoping that they could see me and walk around me rather than walk over me. I stood like this for about 10 minutes as the heard split and slowly walked by me on both sides. I was so scared that it was five minutes after they left before I could let go of the rain gauge and make my way back to the truck.

Welcome to my home. I Drive Truck from Anchorage north 5 nights a week. I see so much wildlife on my work days,plus northern lights during the winter. The Seward Highway is the most Dangerous highway in Alaska. It seems someone is killed on that two lane road every month. It’s a shame people drive so impatiently . You had great weather it’s been raining most of July so far.

Fun fact about the Rotary, even the lighter ones used on the narrow-gauge railroads required 3-5 locomotives to push them, depending on the grade

I’m 80 and remember the town of Portage and the earthquake but I don’t remember that the city disappeared. Thanks for the history lesson. Great video.

Gotta add for anyone who flies a drone...As long as you aren't bothering the wildlife with your drones...I'm good. I have seen people from out of state or country, think this is OKAY to do. As long as you don't endanger the wildlife.

Great video , I live in a semi arid zone in Australia where we are lucky to get 180mm ( 7 inches ) of rain a year . To see all that greenery , water and snow capped mountains was excellent . You can see where they got the idea for all the tunnel boring machines they use these days with that rotary bladed snow clearing train , well done .

I really enjoyed seeing this, I was fortunate enough to have visited Alaska once before many years ago. I have a friend who lived there for over 20 years before moving to Santa Fe New Mexico. I sent him this wonderful video. :)

I was stationed at Elmendorf AFB, and I hiked all over that area. Then had the opportunity to land a job on the Trans Alaska Pipeline. Talk about majestic mountains in the Brooks Range to the semi flat land all the way to Prudhoe Bay, Ak. Also worked in different camps from Fairbanks down to Valdez, Alaska. Beautiful scenery!

Beautiful footage of wildlife folk living their very best lives. They all seem quite relaxed even along by the road and railway. Love the variety of species. I sincerely hope they're not pestered by human hunters 🙏🙌✨️
