Wise people say:

To understand the services rendered by the scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah and the great masters of the Silsila-i Aliyya (chain of spiritual masters), one must know them well. One of those masters says:
If we were to pour the tears we shed into buckets, they would fill several buckets. An ideal, a cause, has nothing to do with appointment, money, profession, or diploma. That is, reaching a certain point is not achieved through ability, knowledge, or wealth and possessions. Indeed, all of these are trusts; we possess nothing. So, what should we have? A wounded heart, suffering. Those who suffer, who know how to bear burdens, succeed. Those who inflict suffering on others will one day be erased.

Another one of them says:

When the pain I was experiencing became unbearable, I performed ablution and prayed two rak'ahs. I opened my hands, weeping, and pleaded, "Oh God, the knife has reached the bone, I can't bear it anymore. I understand I can't continue this work, but let others not suffer because of me. You are the one who created me from nothing, who gave me this life. You know best what is best for me; if death is best for me, then take my life!" That was the point of hitting rock bottom. From that day on, tremendous progress was seen in our services.

Great men do not love money, possessions, or wealth. They always love to give, seeking the prayers of the people. The fire burning in the hearts of our great men is to benefit people in every way, materially and spiritually.

Our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) loved to give. When something was asked of him, if he had it, he would certainly give it. If he didn't have it, he would remain silent, he wouldn't answer. That is, he wouldn't say "no." If he had nothing to give, he would show a smiling face. (Showing a smiling face is charity. You cannot please everyone with wealth. Try to please them with a smiling face, kind words, and good manners!) he would say.

Our religious leaders are always smiling, but their smiles are not artificial. Their laughter and even their tears are sincere. Artificial actions are incompatible with sincerity. A sincere Muslim is someone who does not act artificially, who says exactly what is in their heart and mind. In other words, they are someone who appears as they are.

Before his death, Imam al-Ghazali, when his students asked for one last piece of advice, repeated "Sincerity, sincerity, sincerity" three times. Sincerity means being genuine towards God and His servants. There is no hypocrisy or deceit in sincerity. There is no using people's religion to gain advantage in sincerity. There is no taking in sincerity, only giving. That is sincerity! (dinimizislam.com)
