good video, but the zoomer editing is nauseating, i dont like the way you are constantly trying to zoom in on the most plainly obvious stuff other than that its a good showcase
Unfortunately this kinda shows to me that they didnt really have their priorities in order when developing. Basic gameplay not properly ironed out yet they have multiple cutscenes and very developed maps
My main takeaway from this (especially since iirc most of the trailers for this where the no real gameplay kind) was that this might've been better off as an animated web series like petscop.
Its a red flag to me that many audio and visual components seem to have been finalized before a lot of the core design implementation (code). It suggests that there may have not been a formalized software development cycle established.
This makes so much sense. I always saw the trailers and thought: "The game looks almost done, why didn't this ever work out?" But seeing this makes me realize that they put a lot of focus on getting the vibe right, instead of making something actually playable. Reminds me of an Extra Credits video where they explained how trailers almost never represent the actual state of the game at the time the trailer released, and more often than not are just tricks to make it look like a finished product in order to drive hype and investor support (not that this game had investors).
Gamedev is a funny thing. Everyone wants to recreate the concepts of their favourite game, then they hit the wall that is putting real effort into the systems of the game, that backend that takes days and months of working on and playtesting, then development ceases because they think it's too much trouble.
Sadly it looks like the game hasn't had any actual game updates since 2020, and had a comic thing posted in 2024 on their discord. The most vocal of the lead devs (and another in their server) aren't even in the server anymore, as well as it turning into a (Fan Server). It's kind of sad really, they managed to get some crazy visuals in that gif they shared. Who knows, we could be getting pranked and it releases tomorrow, it's...been nearly a decade, after all. I wouldn't mind waiting an eternity as long as I saw it release in some fashion.
I remember when I was in 8th grade in 2014 and before the school year ended they asked the class what I was excited for for the next school year to come and my answer was the release of Mother 4. Winter 2014...
other than that its a good showcase
