Pablo D’Ors, priest and writer, founder of the Friends of the Desert association, author of the biography of Foucauld, "The Forgetting of Self." Since this book is unavailable, we recommend his work entitled "Biography of Silence" https://geni.us/BiografiaSilencio
Charles de Foucauld was born in Strasbourg, France, on September 15, 1858. In 1883, he undertook a successful expedition in the Moroccan desert, which earned him the gold medal of the Geographical Society. His religious conversion took place in 1886. After his experience as a Trappist monk in Syria and as a hermit in Nazareth, he was ordained a priest in 1901. To imitate the hidden life of Jesus in Nazareth, he went to live in the heart of the Sahara Desert, in Tamanrasset (Hoggar). The Berbers called him a "marabou." He wrote several books about the Tuareg, notably a French-Tuareg and Tuareg-French grammar and dictionary. The Little Brothers of Jesus community, dedicated to the evangelization of the Tuareg of the Sahara, arose around him. On December 1, 1916, at the age of 58, Charles de Foucauld was killed by a rifle shot during a skirmish among the Hoggar Berbers.
Some of Foucauld's thoughts: "The more one loves, the better one prays... When one loves, one desires to speak constantly with the beloved, or at least to contemplate him incessantly. That is what prayer consists of... My apostolate must be the apostolate of goodness. Upon seeing me, one should say: 'Since this man is good, his religion must be good.' If one asks why I am gentle and good, I must answer that it is because I am the servant of one much better than I." If you only knew how good my teacher Jesus is! Diary, 1909.
Pablo d'Ors was born in Madrid in 1963. After graduating in New York and studying Philosophy and Theology in Rome, Prague, and Vienna, he was ordained a priest in 1991 and assigned to the Claretian mission in Honduras, where he carried out evangelizing and social work. Upon returning to Spain, he combined his pastoral work with teaching as a professor of Dramaturgy and Theological Aesthetics at various universities in Spain and Argentina. After meeting the Jesuit Franz Jalics, in 2014 he founded the association "Friends of the Desert," whose purpose is to deepen the contemplative dimension of the Christian life and to initiate and accompany others on the adventure of interiority. Shortly afterward, he was appointed cultural advisor to the Vatican by Pope Francis.
His career as a novelist began in 2000, inaugurating his unmistakable style, both comic and lyrical, spiritual and sensory. Between 2001 and 2007, he combined his creative work with literary criticism for the cultural supplement of the newspaper ABC. Public recognition came with his "Trilogy of Silence," comprised of "The Friend of the Desert" (Anagrama, 2009), the acclaimed "Biography of Silence" (Siruela, 2012), which became a true publishing phenomenon, selling 25,000 copies in ten editions, and "Self-Forgetting" (Pre-textos, 2013), a tribute to Charles de Foucauld.
