I studied this period for A Level History some 40+ years ago. Very enjoyable to cover it all again, in a much more agreeable format !

The prince of Parma is a HAM!

We Dutch listeners are having a great time listening to you trying to pronounce Doesburg while miring about polders.

The moustache of the Prince of Parma’s mother is the kind of detail that keeps this storytelling so vivid. Like quilting stitches that pin all the history filling into something memorable and serviceable for listeners.

I'm loving these and listening to so many while doing stuff lately. I've been a voracious reader of history, particularly ancient history all my life and studied history and the Classics.
It's been a while since I've been in the Tudors mode.
I go through different historical phases and cycle back to ancient Rome and Greece usually during the summer.
As usual, immensely enjoyable discussions. I can listen to Tom speak about topics for hours, especially ancient Rome. Ciao Ciao~

This is a captivating session. A very significant part of history. And William the Silent was an admirable leader. Thank you and your team.

“Now, in 1581, the skies are dark. Beyond the limits of England, blood is flowing, there are cities on fire, there are bodies drifting down the Dutch canals …”.
said with that trademark look of pure, unadulterated glee for impending human misery.

What would this podcast even be without Dominic’s magnanimous appreciation for he gruesome, his most impressive capacity for the temporary(?) suspension of empathy, his delight in the tossing of foxes?

I'm not sure I'd even watch it.
And I strongly suspect Tom wouldn't want to hang around without the comforting presence of his evil twin, either.

Very much enjoying this series! It’s not a period that was taught in my history classes growing up, so I’m learning a lot!

So many of my English ancestors were actually Low Country Protestants who escaped to England for a generation or two before heading to New England, and Pennsylvania.

Fascinating episode. My home town Norwich was directly & irrevocably affected by the influx of Dutch, Flemish & Walloon weavers, who were welcomed as refugees from the Spanish Netherlands war. They affected the local architecture, dialect and economy, making Norwich one of the most affluent English cities for the next 200 years.

Arcadia is not a poem but a prose romance, albeit with plenty of poems dotted in. (Talking of unusual names, it's also where the name Pamela was invented.)

Laurel and Hardy's Bedtime Stories Strikes Again!! Thanks guys !

Brilliant! Again. Thank you so much. Worth noting, it would be easier for your listeners if you numbered the episodes up front and gave them the same name: Queen Elizabeth Part One or Sir Francis Drake 1. etc...
