Cambridge University psychologist Sir Simon Baron-Cohen argues that human invention, from agriculture to music to science, comes from our ability to spot a very specific type of pattern in the world around us. In this session from WIRED Health 2021 Baron-Cohen explores the fascinating link between that very human ability for invention and autism.
“Many companies are cognising that innovation comes from diversity in the team. If everyone thinks in the same way, there is not much space for new ideas.”
Sir Simon Baron-Cohen is Professor in the fields of psychology and psychiatry Cambridge University, where he is also the Director of the Autism Research Centre there. Baron-Cohen’s popular science book entitled The Essential Difference (Penguin 2003) has been translated in over a dozen languages and has been widely reviewed, and his new book, The Pattern Seekers, offers a new theory of human invention.
