When my daughter was little just before Christmas we used to put bags of toys under the Christmas trees, old toys that she didn't play with or use anymore. These toys of bags would then be collected by Father Christmas to take to children who didn't have many toys....(of course these would go to a charity shop) This way I had more space to put new toys after Christmas and less decluttering xx
"Here we are, a year later and it´s even worse" is a scenario I have lived through SO many times that it´s very, very hard to have any confidence left in myself. Thank you so much for sharing things so authentically, Remi! It means the world to me! xx
The amount of stuff brought to my house by my kid's grandparents used to drive me crazy. It was honestly 5 or 6 items a couple of times a week. Here's my top tip which actually helped. When they would come home with things, I would look at the items and say "how lovely, that will be something nice to play with at Grandma's house". Then hand it back to the grandparents firmly with a smile. If they protested I would say there wasn't any room but the kids would love to play with it at theirs. Amazingly the stuff stopped pouring in once they had to find room for it.
Your kids won the jackpot when they got you for a mother. Your warmth, kindness, thoughtfulness and self-accountability is setting them up for a positive lifetime. Trust me when I say they are lucky to have you ❤
As a mun of 4 and now I have 8 grandsons I'll give you the tip I used when dealing with an abundance of toys. The month before Christmas because that's when the charity shops needed the most I had the kids pick out 10 toys each that they no longer wanted or played with. It helps those parents who need to buy from the charity shop and it gets rid of things before the Christmas presents are opened.
I try to find new youtube cleaners all the time inbetween your uploads, but it rarely ever hits the spot like your videos😂 when you upload my day is made
Remi I started watching you this summer, before leaving for college, going through an awful breakup and feeling like I was losing my mind. Now I am watching you in my own townhouse to motivate myself to clean to bring home my own kitten. Thank you so much for posting in a way that makes me feel less alone. Me and Bergamot thank you <3
i love your videos so so much. i swear the way you speak about things, especially your family and yourself, rewires my brain.... thank you for being so kind, graceful, and cool. and thank you for uploading so i can experience it from across the world 💛
For anyone thinking you can't declutter, here is my story. I am an emotionally connected with everything, was hurt by my mom decluttering my room behind my back losing everything to the point of being homeless by company closings twice and finally getting another home back and fighting the urge to hold onto everything in case I might need it, and yes its been slow and progress from goat trails through my 2,000 square feet home to a calmer more organized and decluttered small home. I might add I am a single mom with two autistic teens. It can be done and Remi is right. Just follow what she says and hang in there you can do it! I am no where near perfect but we are in a good place! I know you can so if I can trust me, you can too! I was a messy kid, college dorm student and wife and mom. It takes time and you can do it too!😊
One of the things that helped family members understand our request of no more toys was to bring them in to help clean up the boys room. When they saw all the things the boys had they finally understood our request for experiences. We have family members that were constantly giving the boys things. We have now gotten it down to only a few things at birthdays and Christmas. Children do not need new toys and things throughout the year. Same thing for clothes. Just because someone likes an item doesn’t mean it has to be bought.
I’m rewatching this and it resounded with me about what you said about holding onto things for sentimental reasons. I need to learn that even though gifts I have been given were given with thought and love- it doesn’t mean that person wants me to hold onto it forever.
17 bags!! 🎉🎉 You’re doing amazing, Remi! Even if someone “has it all figured out”, there’s not a one size fits all cleaning solution. We’re all unique. 😃 Have a blessed week!
Never start a project without knowing what you’re eating that day, there’s nothing worse than being hungry at the end of the day and I wouldn’t say there’s anything wrong with using paper plates that day! Ask friends and family that give gifts to your boys to give them vouchers for days out and suggest that only Santa gives toys! Less is more I’d find that so stressful so it’s great to get it out 👍
We made the request for money for a family trip (and a little bit of sweets or toys) instead of the overwhelming amount of gifts. My parents and in-laws and the whole family were surprised at first. But seeing the “results” made them happy too. Less stuff, less stress, more fun and memories
