This whole review is larger that the 3rd act of Spiderman 2😂

Miles new suit is a little bit of a funny spot for me, because on my first playthrough I had just chosen which costumes I wanted Miles to wear that would compliment  Peter's suit, not even 1 minute before triggering the cutscene and seeing a totally new (ugly), different costume from than one I chose.

Amazing work on this man!

I remember when the game Kingdom Hearts III came out, there was this review that described it in a very interesting way. And I think the way they described that, is exactly how I feel about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 is the best disappointment I’ve ever played.

I adore this game. 8 or 9 out of 10 for me. But it had so much to live up to and it just didn’t meet my expectations. It’s a disappointment for sure…but I still love it anyway. Because throughout my first playthrough, I was having a blast from start to finish. I just…wanted something even more.

Dude, super underrated channel, any hope that you gonna post again sometimes?

One thing i hated in this game is that due to the bad writing, if the writer thought for a second they could've gotten three spiderman villains in the game.

One would be the principal at Mile's school and the mission where you have to recuse a teacher. The way she acted so dead-pan that Spiderman saved a teacher, made me distrust her and i wonder if she could be the "Chameleon" who took the place of the principal after finding out both spiderman where at the school.

And then at the Emily-may place we got two scientists that would've been perfect for the bee villain "Swarm" and even the ultimate blue version of "Electro"

But no, i forgot this is PS5 spiderman 2, and writing is there downfall the dragged the game down

the hype i had for this game was crazy but mannn this shit was a letdown i kept telling myself when playing it that it’ll reach those same heights that the first game did but it never came

Personally, I will probably never play this game for myself because of how bad I think the writing and handling of the Symbiotes is. I'm tired of the overused "Symbiote makes you evil" trend because Symbiotes are far more complex than that, and Peter succumbing to its influence doesn't feel natural or gradual. Having Harry be Venom completely misses the point of what Venom is since it is specifically the unification of the Symbiote and Eddie Brock. It makes no sense for Harry and the Symbiote to even call themselves Venom in the first place if they are supposedly trying to heal the world. Also, having Venom be a global threat is such a boring use of a villain who is known for being a very intimate and personal threat that the world at large is ultimately unaffected by because all Venom truly cares about is killing Spider-Man. It just feels like an even worse version of Venom from Web of Shadows.

Peter feels weaker and more incompetent compare to the first game and the fact that they set up the idea of him becoming a teacher in Miles Morales and a spin off comic only to immediately throw it out the window makes me question what the point was. Miles is just kinda there with his awful haircut and colgate abomination and having a very non-personal fight with Venom at the end of the game for no good reason other than to remind us he exists. Mary Jane continues to be one of the worst adaptation of a Spider-Man supporting character ever and when she becomes Scream she just comes across as incredibly ungrateful, toxic and for some reason Peter never fights back on her wild claims, (Peter just kinda takes and puts up with a lot of abuse in the game for some reason). It also isn't a great look for Insomniac that they doubled down on the horrible MJ side-missions and made her more powerful than Peter and Miles combined seemingly out of spite toward the people who didn't like her gameplay inclusion in the first game.

I don't care what anyone says, Kraven was never a good villain and the only good and interesting thing to be done with the character was Last Hunt. Choosing him as the big bad for the story is a dumb and bizarre choice and, like you said, it makes no sense for his character to have a billion goons at his disposal. Since his story is basically just a repeat of the Spider-Man 3 movie game, they should've had him as a minor villain instead of a major one so they could focus more on the stuff with Peter and Harry.

I liked Yuri Watanabe a lot in the first game, but in the DLC and this game her writing just comes across as a rushed after-thought that doesn't really take into account how she was established in the said game.

Insomniac's continued obsession with armored tech suits for villains, goons and Spider-Men alike continues to hamper the art style for me because it's like they don't know how to do anything else. Spider-Man was never a super techy character who had three hundred different armors in his closet, he's not Iron Man or Batman, and their original costume designs are just. . .bad. I wish they just stuck to costumes that already exist and fans actually wanna see in the games (why make the Stone Monkey suit when Spider-Man 1602 exists?).

Cindy Moon in the post credits just makes me immediately uninterested in the third game because multiple Spider-People is so overdone and Silk was never a good character. Just keep it strictly to Miles and Peter. They're the ones I care about. Plus, the first female Spider-Person who deserves to be in a game should be Mayday Parker, not Dan Slott's fetishization of Asian women.

Those are just my own jumbled and incomplete thoughts for this game's writing. I honestly wish I could feel the same love for this game as you do but I've just gradually lost faith in Insomniac's ability to write good Spider-Man stories ever since the City That Never Sleeps DLC.

lowkey peter as venom would’ve been better than the slop act 3 we got lol

This was a solid video but I don’t agree at the last part, just because Miles’ game was a “ps5” seller doesn’t make it less of a game by any means heck you yourself said it helps establish Miles as a character which means it’s important in this trilogy and it should be compared to 2 as well, heck it actually does some things better than 2

I’m just starting the vid but I gotta comment on the beginning.  You thought that was Norman transferring the symbiote to Harry?   Even though it shows it in the tank? lol.  That was a weird and pointless nightmare type sequence.  Harry talks about the horrible nightmares he had in the tank so I’m guessing the was to show him feeling like he was trapped inside.  Which ultimately didn’t really fit with the rest of the game but either way that wasn’t Norman giving Harry Venom lol.  That would mean Norman had just nonchalantly taken the symbiote into himself.  Come on now

31:20 WHO is putting Andrew in the conversation?

Bangin retrospective my man

This is my last comment.
1:27:40 "...and the best part being the dialog between MJ and Peter" this in regards to the Scream fight.

Dude, I'm not trying to be rude but when you listen to dialog and follow a story do you just listen and ride along, not really thinking about what they are saying? I find it difficult to consider you listen and THINK about what they are saying and how it applies to their relationship, the current story, reality itself etc.

Some of the dumbest lines are said during this boss fight.
She says how Peter is the most important and shes mad about it. Like usual, Peter apologizes for this.
I understand shes not herself but the symbiote amplifies your emotions but the very fact these emotions are coming out makes her look like a complete ungrateful f'n b-word.
The fact she even brings up the complaint of "everything is about you" is the dumbest thing in the world. Hes a friggin superhero of over 10 years and has saved the city and perhaps the world countless times. YEAH! He's important!
She thinks shes important cause she wrote a book no one read??? How self centered do you have to be to even compare the two?

Awesome video, well done. The funny moments were good but I think you were TOO in depth, we dont need to know everything little thing thats gets unlocked, where and how much XP/tokens it gives you.

I'm also curious, weren't there things that just bothered you?
Peter full blown dieing from a knife stab?
Peter constantly needing help?
The stupidity of every MJ mission and how they start i.e. she enters a base filled with trained hunters, she enters a locked tunnel with a raged alien in the hopes to do... what?

Your MJ take is a hell of a take.
Yeah, continuing to watch I COMPLETELY disagree with you on MJ and how she is portrayed.

1:26:00 Dude hahaah do you hear yourself?
Quote:
"Venom goes to attack Peter and MJ protects him"... MJ. protects. him (Peter).

And so far your only gripe is the rushed 3rd act?

The game, for me, is not disappointing because it's bad. That's so far from the truth. It's my favourite of the trilogy. However, it does not improve nearly enough on its predecessors and the story is too short.

I mean, I do enjoy trash for time to time but not this game's level of trash

great deep dive into the game! this is so sigma
