Exploring Turkey's Black Sea region means discovering a radically different side of Turkey than you might think. In this episode, I take you to Safranbolu, a UNESCO World Heritage Ottoman village and former stop on the Silk Road, then to Trabzon with its little-known Byzantine heritage, and finally to Sumela Monastery, perched on a cliff 300 meters high in a pine forest reminiscent of Switzerland.
