On March 3rd, 2019, Lee County Alabama was subjected to an intense, long-tracked tornado that would leave a 68-mile scar through the deep South. Its alarming loss of life revealed the dark reality of manufactured homes in tornadoes.

My childhood home and my little brother were demolished by this tornado. Luckily he survived with a broken back in several places, completely shattered pelvis and hips, and obliterated left leg, plus other cuts and bruises. Took about 2 years for him to start being able to walk again. I'm extremely proud of how my community came together after this disaster. The whole community feels much closer and more caring of eachother since then.

I grew up in a double-wide manufactured home in the most active part of Tornado Alley in Kansas. Every storm and every tornado season was absolutely horrifying, just KNOWING you're 100% COOKED if you take a direct hit. That's just another downside of poverty. My mom worked 2 jobs, but we were very, very poor. We literally couldn't afford any other option. This video specifically really put into perspective just how lucky we were to never get hit directly. Now that I'm an adult living in Texas, access to a basement or storm shelter is one of my top priorities every time I move.

by far my favorite part about your videos isnt just how you mention the victims, but you give them their face, their story instead of simply stating the body count. thank you for not letting them be forgotten.

It should be mentioned that DeMarcus Ware (former Dallas Cowboy and I believe Auburn before) paid for the funeral expenses of the victims. I thought that was nice.

I remember me and my family were watching the news, when we found out that we had a tornado. We were all hiding in the hallway while we had hail hitting our house. Although the tornado didn’t come close to our house, me and my mom went to see the damage and make sure everyone was okay. Seeing all of the homes damaged made me upset, knowing people lost the homes they lived and raised their kids in. We knew one woman who had major damage to her home just from the tornado. There was also a lot of damage to the elementary school (West Smiths Station).

I cant imagine how the Thornton parents felt. They let their kid go to a friends house, and, even though it was absolutely noones fault and there was arguably nothing that could be done, i imagine they will be questioning themselves for the rest of their lives.

I walked out my front door to this coming right towards me. I was 16 at the time and staying in a house the street over from the photo at 8:00 . Multiple of those single family homes were completely destroyed, there inner walls exposed, mattresses laying in the driveway, never seen anything like it. Don't think I've seen a video going over this event, so thank you for covering it!

This hit just a few miles from my home. I woke up that afternoon to the weather alert on my phone. One of my best friends was nearly killed, it took him around 2 years to be able to walk again. It was absolutely devastating for our small town. I didn't realize just how bad it was til I was in New Mexico visiting family the next day and they were talking about it. They were how I learned just how bad it was and it made national news. Some of my family is still recovering emotionally

I live in Auburn. I remember the day of this tornado well. It just felt different outside. It was extremely muggy and very windy. I had this foreboding sense that there would be a bad tornado. I cleaned out the area in our basement under our stairs and stocked it with water, flash lights, and snacks because we were in the enhanced risk area.

I appreciate the attention you give to the victims. It's heart-wrenching to hear about these things but oh so important to help others avoid the same fate. It's easy for us to lose ourselves in the fascination of the tornado, and we need that reality check every now and again.

I remember coming back from a young life trip from Georgia that day. I just got off the bus in Auburn and many parents were scrambling to get their kids off the bus and I couldn’t figure out why. Turns out we missed the tornado by a mere hour after it hit. I knew many that lost friends and family that day and stories I’ve heard from rescuers are enough to send a shiver down your spine. The title may say that this a forgotten tornado, but I can assure you that everyone in Lee County remembers that day and will for the rest of their lives.

I'm a lifelong citizen of Alabama, we have an unfortunate history of these super tornadoes. I stilll remember the tornadoes that went through Tuscaloosa many years back. They left a trail of destruction miles long, entire stretches of land just stripped down to the dirt.
