These are not all "banned" exactly. Some of them were pulled from school curricula but that's not a nationwide ban. Every nation has, and should have, a limited school library list for books and films. Do you want your 1st grader watching "I Spit on Your Grave"?
1:18 As someone from the CIS region, I can tell you that back in the late 1930s, the USSR had a translation of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by Alexander Volkov titled "The Wizard of the Emerald City" Volkov subsequently used this as the basis for a series of six fairy tales.
Holy shit, the story around The Satanic Verses one being banned is CRAZYYY. Apparently it's so offensive to Islam that Iran basically declared war on the author, leading to several assassination attempts on him as recently as 2022, in which he lost an eye. He's under specific UK government protection lol.
I understand that the author was banned from Google. But the books were published in the USSR — “The Jungle” was published in 1956. Adam Smith. An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations. In 2 volumes. – M.-L.: State Socio-Economic Publishing House, 1935-1936.There was also a 1924 edition. The "Iron Heel"for example was published in 1923,1930, 1948.
The Wizard of Oz was adapted as The Wizard of Emerald City in 1939.
One book I’m worried about getting banned in the United States is I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream (the antagonist is an ai that hates humans so much it killed all but 5 of them, and proceeds to torture them)
