A debris hut combined with a mylar tube tent is a tough combo to beat when on the go in a SHFT situation.

I have thought of the cattel panel hut over a dug out area filled with compost under southern exposure and woodchips for a long time its a plan of mine and heating it with a barrel stove and stone around it to hold the heat for an emergency shelter or a camp.

I have one that cost me $10 for a tarp and $3 for the washing line rope to bind the A frame it's also got a fire pit and I go there when I can to camp cook and chill out its like the den in the woods I didn't have as a kid ❤

Ive used almost all of these.  Looking forward to earthbag in the future.  They left out the mors kochansky supershelter.

Pallets are the best for walls, floors and ceiling, then stuff the spaces with vegetation and now it's weatherproof and stops wind.

Build from things you can collect free. Crutches, cains,walkers,billboard tarps. Aircraft aluminum it's lighter stronger than the wood.

If you use cattle panels both horizontally and vertically in a quonset hut shape you will  have a fairly solid structure that is 16 foot long, 9 foot wide at the base and 7 1/2 foot tall in the center!  You will need at least 9 panels which are galvanized, 2 of which will make your ends.  Tie them together with twine or galvanized wire (for long term) and cover them with plastic tarps.  The tarps can be hang horizontally, bottom layers first tied to the panels thru the grommets and the top layer tied from grommets down to the very bottom (ground) wires of the panels along as the tarps are at least 6 foot wide and preferable 18 foot long.  If using shorter length tarps then tie the short ends together and roll them over twice (in the same direction) to make a water seal!  The same can be done if you run the tarps the long way over the top!  Make sure to overlap the ends (front and back) by at least a foot!  The end pieces of panel can be cut to shape to lay flat across the end openings or formed to make a rounded end which is harder to do but sheds wind and rain much better!  And of course, make a door hinged on one side!  Then if you wish you can cover this shelter with debris to somewhat camouflage it and insulate it.  To make it nearly bulletproof you can stack sandbags over the framework adding galvanized wires tied to the panels in between each layer of sandbags then add 3 cattle panels over the top of the sandbags tied with the galvanized wire from between the sandbags!  I would add five upright poles at the front and back and every four foot along the center to help handle the extra weight of the sandbags!  Locked in!  For a smaller structure, you can use 3 cattle panels and a five foot length of panel (with two feet extended past on one side, this will become your door) tied end-to-end in a circle with (2) 16 foot panels criss crossing (vertically) over the top so that you have a dome shape!  One of those vertical panels should be placed at the end of your door opening for strength!  Tie in panel lengths (of the appropriate lengths) half-way up the vertical panels after curving them lengthwise to fit!  Remove the five foot piece of panel (curve it) and you will have a three foot wide by four foot tall opening for a door opening and the panel piece is then hung vertically so that there is a 6" overlap on both sides of the doorway and will be opened up and out!  Then cover with plastic tarps and debris!  Both of these could be fitted with a small metal stove if needed!  Cooking food outdoors at least 200 feet from your shelter will be less likely to attract animals!

$15 or so of spray paint will camoflage that blaze orange thing,   yu dont dont want a tube tent or a space blanket made into a bivy. The condensation inside of it will soak you. Better be naked inside of it  or have just polypro longjohns and keep your clothes dry in a garbage bag.  Have a sponge for wiping down the condensation often and wring it out, outside of the shelter of course.  only 10% of your loss of body heat is due to radiation,  so the reflectivity doesnt mean all that much, folks

From YYZ. With the enforcement climate nowadays, a bright orange tent is exactly the color I do not want. Camo are more suitable. If the BLM employees did not see you, they cannot start the 14 day timer. The camo tents, covered by local soil and vegetation can be invisible even to a drone. Important when you found a site you like to stay in more than 2 weeks.  (11:20)  Going underground is a great idea, but you have to have barriers for water proofing. You cannot do much without spending even a little. Even the kid drifter who build a shack with pallets on some empty lot  had to pay something. For someone who will build underground,  what I will do is to use a BobCat to do the digging, it is not free, but I will have a much larger place. Pick somewhere with sandy soil for easy drainage, and there is also a need to gather rainwater.  (12:17)  I am not so frilled with that Florida shelter since I am picky as to who I sleep with . I hate waking up with an alligator or snake next to me.

Also, you need to ask businesses about their stacks of pallets, because the good ones are never "free" as suggested & just rolling up & loading someone elses property & taking things could put you in a very bad situation 🤷🏻.
