Raden Syahid, also known as Sunan Kalijaga, was one of the Walisongo (Wali Songo) who spread Islam throughout the archipelago, especially the island of Java.

Sunan Kalijaga was born in 1450 AD in Tuban.
He was the son of the Duke of Tuban, Raden Sahur, or Tumenggung Wilatikta, along with Dewi Nawangarum.

Sunan Kalijaga also had other names, including Lokajaya, Sheikh Malaya, Prince of Tuban, and Raden Abdurrahman.

Sunan Kalijaga was known for his skill in introducing Islamic teachings to the community.

He employed unique methods of preaching, such as creating shadow puppets (wayang kulit), takwa clothes (clothes of piety), the Lir-ilir song (song), gundul-gundul pacul (a traditional Javanese traditional dance), suluk gila (a traditional Javanese traditional dance), kidung rumekso ing wengi (a traditional Javanese traditional dance), grebeg maulud (a traditional Javanese traditional dance), and Serat Dewa Ruci (a traditional Javanese traditional dance).

One of the most famous media for preaching was shadow puppets.
Sunan Kalijaga replaced the previous wayang stories of the Ramayana and Mahabharata, which were Hindu stories, with Islamic themes incorporated into them.
The puppets also underwent changes, shifting from human figures to new, caricature-like creations.
Sunan Kalijaga integrated Islamic teachings into Javanese culture, enabling his preaching to be carried out quickly and effectively.

Sunan Kalijaga died in 1513 AD in Demak and was buried in Kadilangu Village, Demak District, Demak Regency, Central Java.

Sunan Kalijaga's tomb is always busy with pilgrims from various regions in Indonesia.

Next to Sunan Kalijaga's tomb, there is a jar filled with water believed to have healing properties.

AFTER YOUR PILGRIMAGE, PLEASE EAT AND BUY SOUVENIRS FIRST.

Along the path out of the tomb, there are vendors selling clothing souvenirs and souvenirs typical of the city of Demak.
