When he says Vicksburg wasn't decided by the 3rd of July, he's talking through his hat. Vicksburg was well decided  by the 3rd of July, 1863.

When I hear narratives like this from writers like this, I remember the old sayings "everybody is wrong except thee and me" & "armchair generals are always victorious".

I don't understand the concept of the South "winning the first day".  If an ice hockey team loses a game 5-2, does anyone say that the losing team "won" the first period because the score at that point was 1-0?  The Union's goal on the first day was to preserve the high ground, which it did.  The fact that the South was able to bring more flanking troops to bear on the first day was happenstance in any event.

Excellent.  It shows how the supply line or lack there of, dictated the action.

Would have and could have. That's how battles are fought.  Lee should have  listened to Longstreet.

That author failed to mention that Heth's division started the fight, he also forgot that the arrival of !st Corps stopped the Confederate advance.

Good video. We must remember that Lee and his army were victorious in Virginia, but losers when in Northern states. The South started the war and was stupid enough to think they could be victorious. Jefferson Davis was USA Secretary of War previously and should have known better.

His recitation of who was responsible for failing to press the advantage Ewell initially gained on the first day is clearly different than that of other sources.  Also, Lee's choice to stay and fight on days 2 and 3 are presented with more facts to justify Lee's choice to stay and fight.  Was Pollard at Gettysburg?  What were the sources of his information?   This may well be a great example of the danger of relying on movies to give us accurate history.

I thought Lee ordered the taking of Culps Hill on the evening of the first day "if practical"?

In the end. The Union Army just had more men and supplies then the Southern Army. Oh, and the Union Army, could bring up reinforcements, that the Southern Army did not have.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems to me that an accurate re-telling of the first day's Battle at Gettysburg would NOT have stated that Heath's division met the 11th Corps of the Union army.  Instead it would state that Heath's men met and engaged the 1st Corps of the Union army.   The Union 11th Corps arrived after the 1st Corps and eventually both of these Corps were routed through the town onto Cemetery Ridge by the arrival of Ewell's Corps which arrived from the North and flanked the existing two Union Corps.  So, in effect, two of the three Corps of Lee's Army of Northern Virginia were engaged with only two of the six Corps of the Union Army on the first day's Battle.  (obviously a 'Corps' in Lee's army was larger in size than Meade's army Corps size)
