you will need 2 laser antennas. 1 to connect the satellite to home base and 1 to connect to the drone

I did this a few years ago and put a satellite above my base and then connected it to a network of satellites all around the planet and to my off-world base. Each of my satellites were identical and had three laser antennas so they could each connect to two neighboring satellites and one additional satellite or ship. We were running a mod that allowed us to send information from base to base so we could see what all of the bases had from every base's information display terminals.  Plus I could remote into all of my bases and nearby ships. It was a royal pain in the ass to setup, and it often went offline and had to be adjusted.

Idea

with the ship on the return journey if you add a AI flight block and a recorder block you could set up a event block to activate the AI at a specific height on reentry and have it to follow certain waypoint back to the base for easier recovery

Yes, the laser antenna has infinite range, BUT do you have an infinite power source???

This is soooo dope,
I’d love a super basic tutorial on how you even hit the antennas to sync/work !! Because I’ve been wanting to make one of these aswell just no clue how to use em. Also didn’t even know altitude was an event in the controller!!

I do also love the idea that there’s a non 0 chance of it rocketing into an asteroid and been obliterated lol

Also also Splitsie had done a fully remote base with cranes and stuff but it could be cool to have a small attachable work drone attached to the state you can link into to do repairs or maintenance 🤔

If you already haven't got one on it, you can use a gyroscope with a 0,0,0 override to keep a level orientation with the planet.

also you can use a gyroscope+rc subgrid to keep the grid level with gravity while it's ascending

A laser satellite actually seems like a really good starter project to make your life easier later on.

Can I have a blueprint of  the  satellite

Very nice. Could set up a three-satellite network, to be able to connect anywhere. Sort of like a satellite network in KSP.

Always found it easier to build regular antenna satellites, using a programmable block to add actual orbiting with a thruster and gyro. done right, you should be able to max it at 41km range, and have it orbit around 30km, or even lower, to cover a large area, create a moving target hard to hit by pirates/npcs, and able to connect with others that could be at least 30km from another to link the mesh together. Never did figure out the timing, and needed to figure out the fine tuning for solar arrays and thrusters/fuel to actually produce a working starlink like coverage, but it was nice to be able to operate a drone from around the world, remotely flying a ship with cargo to a station, unless I fecked up and crashed or didn't track the lower power that wasn't charging for some reason...

WHEN they work

There is a way to rotate whole satellite with 2 gyros, so it will be in one piece without subgrids, but you need to position it correctly initially.

question : why add 2 rotors on the solar wings and add uneven torque to it , i think its going to be btter if you make only one rotor in the center of mass with the solars on the sides , that way you reduce the move on the sides like a screw

I one similar but made a whole rocket to shoot it out to space then connect to my home base and to my space station that was between earth and mars I def over engineer it but it was fun and thankfully worked after days of test and clang.....

All i do is two battery blocks, an antenna, 4 solar panels and a remote control and voilà, satellite

🎉🎉🎉❤

im new to space engineers and have no clue what is going on but it looks cool

Really cool! Do you suppose it is possible to create an orbit using the logic blocks? As in a  orbit that tries to hold it's altitude in rotational orbit - even if I've heard that SE has a gravity falloff to the 7th square which will make this task difficult.
