At last a proper review, real world and no influencers in sight!

I wonder what the 1000th video will be about.

You made editing fun again. I tried multiple courses & quit. But you guys just have this didactic way of imparting knowledge at the correct level of depth. Grateful to have found your training.

Keep it up. Hope there’s 1000 more.

When researching a product to add to my workflow, it’s *always a relief when your commentary/info is included in that research.  Just wanted to say thanks much for not only this specific review, but the last 15+ years of work you do, it’s immensely valuable to the community 🤝

Question about the issue you discuss at 7:15: was this issue resolved with a subsequent firmware update?  It *seems like a buggy FW issue type of problem, and curious if a year later this has been resolved.

Thanks!

Regarding the software and lockups—I have the original Nano and use it all the time. It locks up maybe 1/5 times I am using it, and it's always been that way... just part of the experience!

Great review and footage, particularly the interior shots! My heart also goes out to the better halves who have to travel with photo/videographers or gearheads.

Thanks Mark - we're using the longer version on a complex documentary shoot right now and are absolutely happy about it. We're working without the gimbal. Only issue is the slightly unintuitive interface on the slider (the minor point) and the fact that it "froze" a couple of times exactly as you're describing it. But I agree, this could be fixed with a firmware update.
Yes, there is almost nothing yet on the website and iFootage's documentation is basic (btw, the manual we got for the long slider is haf the size of your shorter one). However, I am quite happy they came out with it right now because it allowed us to use this from the get-go as a second camera during interview shots, where we're combining the slider for the B-camera with the EyeDirect image of the protagonist from the A-camera. Looking forward for their first firmware update.
One last thing: our slider is ALMOST silent but sometimes creates some low-level noise that we believe come from the base plate running on the rails. What would you recommend to eliminate those noises, maybe a tiny bit of WD-40?

Hey great job my friend! Appreciate the effort in putting this together, you did solid :)

Thank you so very much. The ONLY review that seems truly unbiased. I just bought the slider today, and still haven't tried with the Rs2.... Hopefully everythng is working now...

Great review! Thanks! Please, please share more content about HLG / HDR Video editing on FCP.

Great Real World review. Thanks Mark. I would really like to see some examples on a tripod. I do Real Estate videos and have to move pretty fast from room to room. I’ve been doing these all handheld with my DJI gimbal.

Interesting video but sorry to say the hunting auto focus was off putting.  Also not 100% sold on the smoothness of the slider, I could see micro jitters sometimes.

First honest review I've seen. Do you think the longer slider version is needed for any reason? As far as moving the camera without it freaking out I think the Push mode in the Gimbal menu needs to be enabled.

Helpful review! I received my slider yesterday and had the same issue with it, shutting down when moving the gimbal in push mode.
I have my suspicions that this has to do with a sudden spike in power consumption. When I switched from an external power source (Anker powerbank) to NP-F it was gone. But I need to do more testing with this.

I don't have this particular slider, but I agree about not using the phone apps. On the Rhino Arc 2 slider I just use the built in hardware to program my moves. You can do stuff with the app but it's a pain to use and honestly takes longer. I found the only use for the phone app is for firmware dates which is few and far between with Rhino.

Mine just arrived.  Initially I was confused because the buttons don't work the same as the original Nano slider.  I read the manual and found that there's a lock function which disables the ability to slide and position the gimbal for keyframes manually.  The power button enables/disables the locking function.  When it came to manually setting the sled position and using push pan/tilt on the gimbal, I was hesitant at first.  It takes a good bit of force to set the slider along the track and gimbal using push pan/tilt manually.  I was a little afraid I was pushing too hard at first, until I realized that's how much force it needs.  Obviously, I never really used push pan/tilt with the gimbal much, and the original Nano needed much less force.

Can't I use batteries from other c-types or do I have to use the expensive ifootage batteries?

Thanks for a great review. This is the first I have heard of this device, and as an RS4 Pro user it is very appealing. However, my first thoughts were "it's way to short", but you say there is a longer version, so I will investigate. Secondly, it is hellishy expensive for what it is actually doing. And for that money, I would expect the software to be at least reasonably reliable. Not having the "push" function operational is a major fail in my opinion. On the plus side, when it works, it does what one would expect, and remarkably well.
I would like to see a more integrated technology that incorporates the DJI ecosystem better, particularly with the RS4 Focus Pro capabilities to accommodate zoom and/or focus automation as well. That would then create a really powerful motion control system. So I would say, they either get what they have right, or drop the price so us mere mortals can afford it.

✌...

For whatever reason when I set my A and B, it says START, not STAND BY. So essentially I thinks my B is my A. Kind of annoying. Has this happened to you?

Thanks for the fantastic review Mark, did you find the slider too short for any shots you were trying to achieve?
