I Slept Next to an Ancient Site in Taşkale

After leaving the Manazan Caves, I continued riding towards the small village of Taşkale.
When I arrived, I found one of the strangest places I’d seen in Türkiye — hundreds of small rooms carved directly into a massive cliff face. These are the Taşkale Grain Granaries, more than 250 hand-carved chambers that have been used to store grain for generations. karaman.ktb.gov.tr
Beside them is a small rock-cut masjid. I went inside, met a group of older local women, and before long they were giving me fruit and loading me up with food for the road.
By the end of the day, I decided to stay there for the night.
Another completely unexpected stop on the journey through rural Türkiye.
