One thing about Zappa was he seemed to have a knack for seeing the potential in other musicians that they don't see themselves. He would push them, sometimes against their will, but they all seemed to look back on it with reverence and appreciation.

And a captivating audition story it was. Picturing that moment when Frank plugged in.

3 months + 8 hours a day = Tight band.

Muffin man is my favorite Zappa song.

I saw Chad playing with Steven Wilson around 2012 for the Europe tour because Marco Minnemann was on tour with The Aristocrats and unavailable.
Chad's performance was perfect.

Great story

I mean Chad just has a certain playing sensibility that is just perfect for my tastes. Metal fatigue by holdsworth is still one of my all time favorite drum parts.

I still maintain that 'Wackerman' is the perfect name for a drummer!

Saw Chad live with Zappa in '84, he was mesmerizing. Around the same time my brother introduced me to Road Games by Allan Holdsworth.....he is brilliant and that is still one of my favorite albums.

Terry Bozzio next? "Oh PUNKY!"

great vid!!!

IS THE BEST!

Looking forward to seeing Banned From Utopia in a few weeks ^_^

You gotta have the skills , but you gotta have some style... Thanks for your story....We  were Zappa fans thru and thru..

Let's see, I might have not got the gig but I would have had fun looking at the page and saying "F U Frank" 😅😅😅

It's always about the feel... the stones, hendrix,  Clapton,  evh aren't necessarily fabulous musicians with a ton of knowledge and a tone of skill.. they can't sight read and play in all kinds of weird signatures but they have feel... soul.... and that's what the snobs are missing.  That's what makes the blues so tough to play because John Lee hooker was all feel and the snobs can't figure that part out.
