A month ago I fell out of a JCB loader. Boot got caught on the way down, knee bent all the way back on itself. I left it. Gave it time. It didn't heal. So this week I finally went to the hospital — and today, while getting tipped in Welshpool, I spent 10 minutes on hold to the X-ray department trying to get it booked in. Then they called me on another line at the same time. Only in trucking.
Two deliveries today — 25 bulk bags to Carver's Building Supplies in Wolverhampton (22-minute tip, they were flying) and 25 more to a builders merchants in North Wales. After that the day went sideways three times. Sent to St Helens, drove an hour the wrong way, load cancelled. Told to go back to the sawmill. Cancel that — go to Aston Airfield and load storage boxes instead. Got loaded at a glider field, went to head home, and the A419 was shut. Potential jumper on a bridge — hopefully they got the help they needed.
With the road shut the wife came and picked me up. Got a haircut. Came back an hour later, road was open, drove the truck back to the yard.
Oh, and the night driver hit a deer in my freshly-repaired truck on Friday night. Coolant leak, front-end damage. I've been in a Volvo half the week.
