"She loves her own virtue, not me." – Fyodor Dostoevsky, "The Brothers Karamazov." Mother Teresa. This was the name of the woman in the simple white sari with a blue border, who for decades raised the dying from the streets, embraced the terminally ill, and cared for those whom society chose to ignore. She was applauded at major international venues, and in 1979, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. After her death, the Catholic Church canonized Mother Teresa.
What if, behind this world-famous image, lurked a completely different reality?
Why, even decades after her death, do historians, doctors, and journalists continue to debate not whether she was a saint... but whether her work brought more good or pain to this world?
We will not recount rumors, repeat loud accusations, or construct theories. But we will turn to documents, eyewitness accounts, archival interviews, and investigations to understand who the woman the whole world is accustomed to calling a saint really was.
