The PC version of this was legitimately my introduction to Rayman as a 6 year old, I didn't play the proper one until years later. I guess because I didn't know better I liked it because I remember completing it twice.

Awesome review man! Glad to see you back. I wrote a comment on your Monkey ball Banana splitz review a while back but I think YouTube may have hid it. I wanted to ask did you use the reVita plugin when playing on your PSTV? With it you can actually change the dead zones on the ps4 analog sticks and make the game control feel a lot better and more like the GameCube games did. After watching your review I copied your setup and modded a PsTV just so I could play the game since I’m a big smb fan and was actually able to get through the master levels with this setup surprisingly enough! (although some levels did make me rage quit a few times lol)

The plugin also allows you to map and rebind any button - I found this very useful for disabling the L3 button which toggles the virtual touch screen pointer as I kept pressing it down by accident when using the left analog stick to move. Just thought I’d let you know in case you weren’t already aware :)

IMHO, these games are more aimed to players from other countries, to test and improve their English skills. As a non-native English speaker, I found this aspect of the game interesting.

The American version, in addition to combining levels 1, 2, and 3, also cuts out the video sequences: after you reach the book at the end, you're taken straight to the title screen. However, the American version is easier because it's spoken with an American accent, while the European version has a British accent.

Besides Rayman Junior Levels 1-3, there's another game in the series, but it was only released in Europe: "Rayman Junior" (without the "Level" designation). It features the same concept, but completely different levels. English isn't an option in the language selection, and there are two voiceovers: English and the selected one. For example, if you select French, one level requires you to know how to translate a word from French to English and choose the right one.

Had Rayman Brain Games growing up, along with the PS1 port of Rayman 2. Certainly not the best way to get introduced to the series lol. Honestly didn't know for a good while what the first Rayman was like and was confused why the world and characters weren't like the ones in 2. I just figured Brain Games was the only Rayman game with this kind of setting and gameplay until I discovered it on YT years later.

Never got far in the game back, don't think I even managed to beat a level because I was just so confused and frustrated by the game. While I do think Rayman 1's aesthetic fits well for edutainment, making the game be just really watered down Rayman stages seems like such a weird choice. The way they designed doesn't really seem like it works for either. It's too frustrating in gameplay to work well for edutainment purposes and as a Rayman game, the levels are boring, repetitive slogs that can arguably be more unfair then the original at times.
