My head canon has always been that Elidibus memory loss both pre and post 5.3 are due to having become a primal, separating himself from it while leaving a good portion of himself behind, then having that primal broken into nuggets and scattered across dimensions.

I went back in time to make this first comment.

the only thing I disagree with in this video is the thumbnail, as it is common knowledge that Tataru will indeed live forever and have 0 change in appearance as time marches on.

Literally a being beyond time.

I dunno why people think elidibus was warning us about changing the timeline, rather than simply stating that we cannot change it.

There's also something a little poetic about it being two twin-loop timelines. One where the Ascians do slowly win, and one where Hydaelyn's vision for the future is trusted.

"I Hate Temporal Mechanics" -- Chief O'Brien (DS9: Visionary)

There is something haunting and eerie about the warrior of light being in a closed time loop, thinking they're changing things and making a difference when they've always been doing what they said they have already done... So cool

I'm going to die on this hill, and that's ok.

I believe firmly that in reality we live in a multiverse, and I think that Alexandr confirmed that XIV's universe lives in one as well. So every outcome has happened, and will happen, and on a pale reflection of reality, the members of Garlong Ironworks are rebuilding and believing their gambit succeeded. Maybe Midgardsormr will tell them.

That's pretty clean theorizing, well done. The ending was hilarious 🤣

I personally am obsessed with chronomancy in games where its available and time travel where its involved. I do have to say what they've done is very impressive.

we should be able to get the archon mark, just bc of this channel

Remember to time travel responsibly

For the most part, it seems FFXIV runs on "Doctor Who" type of Time travel where;

Time heals itself automatically from Paradoxes (Either fixed causal loops or by shattering into two timelines)
And that events from the past, if they threaten the future entirely, will not be remembered and will become forgotten once the person leaves. (I.E If a future you comes to the past, only they will remember the events that happened, so when it's your turn to do the events, it'll be like it was always you)

Hence why Elidibus, who stored all his memories into Memory crystals still couldn't remember your events in Elpis despite them being very significant, because time wouldn't allow for it.

Just get me back in time to talk to Shatotto, a first hand account of the war of the magi seems especially important lately...

The fact that Alexander foreshadowing Meteion could actually be true is mind boggling

What i love is that the loop has a bit of quantum mechanics to it, which itself is very real to how we understand the possibility of timetravel IRL. Cause the loop also relies on both timelines happening, the loop actually closes at the point it has that split with one timeline carrying on while the other eventually turns in and folds back to the start. Both can exist because they both exist, they stabalize each other, it it literally a perfect loop.

Anyone else go find a seat in a lecture hall at The Studium any time your watching one of these videos or is that just me?

OMG, is your dog a Swedish Vallhund? I love that breed so much. I had one when I was younger. They are adorable.

As far as I understand it, the 13th has been linked to the source for it's passage of time precisely because it was the first reflection the ascians tried to rejoin and failed. Thus linking it to the source, its why voidsent have been a thing since the sundering

When it comes to Time Travel I keep thinking most versions are too reductive. I don't recall the book but my favourite version of time travel is to treat time as its own set of 3d coordinates. And so most Loops would have to be Spirals; just like a loop-de-loop at an amusement park is not a true Circle, the loop can repeat but will be slightly different from time to time; it is not guaranteed to be the same each iteration and will eventually break. Our iteration of the loop in the game's timeline is somewhere in the spiral where things essentially work out; The loop is not guaranteed to work, which is what maintains the stakes and tension. Knowing what kind of causality was needed for a given result does not guarantee that you will achieve that result. Viewing the time loop as a fixed, closed loop may lead you to repeat it - or make you so lax that you fail in its maintenance.
