For years, Florida has been one of the hottest relocation destinations in the country. But lately, there’s another side of the story that isn’t getting nearly as much attention: some people are packing up and leaving.

In this video, I break down some of the biggest reasons people are reconsidering Florida — from rising homeownership and insurance costs to traffic, weather, affordability, and the reality of actually living here year-round.

But does that mean moving to Florida is a bad idea? Absolutely not. It means you need to understand what you’re getting into and, more importantly, choose the right part of Florida for the lifestyle you actually want.

I grew up in Florida ... maybe it's better now, but I high-tailed it out, and don't regret doing that for a minute.

We moved out of FL two weeks ago. Went back west. Hard to make a living in FL, and everything is very expensive. We figured it's not worth living there.

We are looking to outside the state and it's not because of the hurricanes or heat it's just too costly here

The reason people are "quietly" leaving Florida is that they don't want to admit that they made a mistake in moving to Florida from other states, most notably California.

Idk about all of Florida but Orlando is definitely trash. Job fair at the Orlando Magic arena wastes hundreds of applicants time by saying to scan their QR code to apply online, or say they get hundreds of applicants a day for a job at QDOBA and Publix and HR’s words of encouragement is to “keep applying.” That shows not only a bad economy, but Florida itself has outgrown in population compared to the amount of jobs they can give to people

Florida rent and mortgage payments are super high the current wages can’t keep up with the cost every body believe that the president, congress , governors on this big corporations was going to help but system is failing

People don't realize that when you don't pay state taxes, you'll be taxed elsewhere. It has to come from somewhere.

I moved to the nature coast 10 years ago. Md. Became too unaffordable for retirement. Paid cash for a 2 2and 2 and we're loving it. Self insure and my taxes are around 1k a year.

I’ll take the heat because the snowbirds are all gone!
No traffic, no waiting at restaurants, you can find parking at the beach, and the theme parks are quite empty.
Wish the snowbirds would just stay up north.

Many people like to move to South Florida.
I call that hurricane alley.
In Central Florida they have built a lot of apartments.
Some aren't even finished.
Yet, where are they going to work?

Florida throughout its' history has always been a transitory state. People are constantly moving in and out. I lived here several times until I became permanent 15 years ago on the Central East Coast. Florida's a very hard state to dig in roots and decide this is it and actually make it, and many have been unsuccessful. This is nothing new.
