Drinking game: During this video, take a shot every time Westinghouse is mentioned. You’ll be gone after about an hour 😂

I remember watching this in 1960.  I miss Cronkite.

I was an 8-year-old kid and stayed up all night watching these returns. I'm pretty sure I watched NBC, though, so this CBS coverage is new to me.

Tote boards. Takes me back.

Also interesting to note the change in electoral votes for each State since back then.

Ah, the sound of the teletype introducing a news program!  When I did a radio project in college, I used some teletype sound effects myself.  Nostalgia.

I can remember flipping vote totals by hand during this election night when I was a kid.  I wonder if it was all done automatically by 1964.

Love this the mighty IBM 7090  I have studied JFK for 52 yrs aged 6 seen this many a time still shed a tear

Why CBS didn’t have seperate columns for “won” and leading” is beyond me. NBC did which probably made it much easier to decipher

Cronkite had such a unique cadence to his speech, which, was, of course, often parodied, just like Ed Sullivan's at the same time.

How do you even get your hands on this content?

this is screaming for bob elliot and ray goulding!

I think I'll watch this on election night this year.

A bit strange how CBS put states in each candidates Electoral vote total with only early  returns.

They ran close together to the end. Kept me on the edge of my seat to the end! Well done and thank you. I was born in '68. I luv historical events no matter if was in my era or earlier

Imagine if you told them in that News room that in the end, both those men will be presidents and that neither of them will leave the White house normally at the end of their term(s).

What a find, wow. And back when computers had 9000 vacuum tubes, lol.

At the time, the studios for CBSTV  News were located in what's essentially the attic of Grand Central Terminal.  While they used the space as a single large broadcast studio for big events like this 1960 election coverage, they also divided into multiple smaller as needed. Edward R. Murrow's "See it Now" broadcasts and Walter Cronkite's coverage of JFK's assassination also originated there. They moved to a more spacious facility on West 57th Street in 1964.

Wow, only 6 decades old? It looks way older than that!

I also noticed this is why they don't start ekection coverage till 10pm est now , if watching all this and living west coast you knew who qon before voting closed out west
