How I’d Become a Data Scientist (if I had to start over)

If I had to become a data scientist from scratch in 2026, this is the exact roadmap I’d follow.

It took me six years, a lot of failed interviews, and a role at Meta to figure out what actually matters when you’re trying to break into data science.
In this video, I’m walking through what I’d learn, what I wouldn’t waste time on, and how I’d prepare for the job market today. We’ll talk about choosing between SQL and Python, building product sense, learning statistics and machine learning, networking, preparing for interviews, and getting comfortable using AI in your workflow.
This isn’t a “become a data scientist in 30 days” plan. It’s the honest data science roadmap I wish someone had given me when I was starting out.
I also put all six steps—and the resources I actually recommend—into the free roadmap linked above.
Let me know in the comments: which step are you working on right now?
