In this past clip from My Expert Opinion EP #146, the iconic Styles P of The LOX sits down with Math Hoffa to address the younger generation's lack of respect for hip-hop pioneers. The Yonkers veteran directly tackles 21 Savage's controversial comments regarding Nas, making it clear that while he enjoys 21 Savage's music, the Atlanta artist is not a lyricist. Styles P drops heavy authoritative knowledge, stating that current industry heavyweights like Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole should have immediately stepped in to correct 21 Savage and protect the legacy of an absolute giant like Nas.
Styles takes ownership on behalf of the older generation, noting that the elders must pull back and figure out where they failed when younger artists make uneducated statements. He breaks down the gritty reality of the genre's unwritten rules, explaining that legends must remain on pedestals out of respect for the vital groundwork they laid. Even though Styles admits there are older rappers he could effortlessly out-rap, he refuses to egotistically step on their necks publicly because maintaining the integrity of the culture is far more important than a momentary ego trip.
